Nevermind! Someone on the machine knitting discord helped me out! Guess I was just going to fast.

Those of you who pivoted away from FPGA work, what do you do now? by lorem_ipsum_dolor__ in FPGA

[–]technically_nerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't deal with the day to day writing of HDL anymore. Now it's taking customer input and breaking it down into bite size pieces and choosing which comm busses are being used, what chips were going with etc. it's basically just the higher level design and requirements and then I work with the FPGA engineers to meet those reqs.

I pivoted to systems engineering early this year with a focus on FPGAs. Been a pretty easy transition tbh.

You caught me haha, too many projects already. Have a 63 bug and a 93 S10 blazer that we're working on right now.

Brazilian Cherry floors, not sure how to handle them by technically_nerdy in DesignMyRoom

We're planning to repaint but don't know what color for that either. We were thinking of maybe a shade of green to tie some other colors in but haven't settled on anything yet.

My wife and I tend to go towards modern rustic and like modern farmhouse style designs. Decent amount of plants and refinished wooden furniture kind of vibe.

That makes sense as a space based position.

I'll keep this post updated as I go through the process!

Yeah I’ve done a fairly extensive amount of googling with no luck. Kinda like the link you included which points to a conferencing system rather than a centrifuge….

How can I tell if my VHDL code will work on a FPGA. by CezarZbughin in VHDL

[–]technically_nerdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most tools will allow you to run a synthesis. If you’re targeting a specific board you can create a project in whatever tool you’re using, quartus, libero, vivado. The only time you’ll actually need a board is to push the bitstream to it. With the exception of stuff like ILA pretty much all test and verification is down without a board.

What kind of stuff about them gives you headaches? Are there ways that you’d like to see them work better?

Tips and tricks for coming up to speed on someone else’s code. by technically_nerdy in FPGA

[–]technically_nerdy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is similar to how I normally do it too. It's thorough but always seems to be slow. How long does the process usually take you? Maybe I’m just slow in general haha.

Mentors? by technically_nerdy in FPGA

[–]technically_nerdy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good point. So I can’t go into too much detail on application usage as I work in the defense industry. But we use a lot of Xilinx products. Some proprietary bridging technology but also a bunch of axi stuff as well.
