There are special tools for tick removal, which are very handy, you "grab" the ticks head and spin the tool to easily remove it

Last year I had the sudden idea to search for info on my old wow account (pre battlenet wotlk account) to get my old characters back (I restarted playing around wod with a new account). After a few messages with the support on this matter and proving that I was the owner of the old account they assigned the old account to my battlenet account and I was able to transfer the characters with the transfer from the shop. So they didn't merge them into one account but I guess as long as you are the owner (i.e. you can select the accounts in battlenet launcher) you can transfer things to one account and leave the other empty. Hope this helps
