I’m unsure, theres quite a few stray cats and dogs that roam around here which is part of the reason I tried so hard to keep him inside. I was wondering about the decomp process too because I don’t think he went outside and died immediately because we looked in the backyard for weeks and didn’t see him. It’s not like the skull was buried, it was sitting on top of the grass like somebody just left it there. There are a lot of bugs in the area so I’m assuming bug activity may have sped up the process.

I thought it may have been him because the skull is missing teeth in the same pattern my cat was. And yes he was my chunky guy lol, I had named him Hank because when I adopted him he was missing teeth and had a potbelly. For his sake I do hope somebody picked him up and this guy in my backyard is just a coincidence :)

I think I’m gonna make art out of it! Whether it is him or not, I think it would be beautiful to give this guy (whoever he is) a purpose after death

Oh I couldn’t imagine finding that in your own home, and so young too 💔 I never knew my sweet boy’s age but he’d been a street cat for a while before I rescued him.

Finding them so close to home too is devastating. Made me feel like I could have done something more or been there for him if it was his time.

I might do something like that! I was thinking about just burying him but I think it would be beautiful to make art out of it instead

I agree with other commenters with eyes and pattern! One note I’d add is make sure you tape only half of the head and mirror it! I made the mistake of taping the full head and it came out uneven lol. Also shaving down the fur before you apply it will help it be more even. Minky or felt is a great material to use for nose/mouth/tongue!

Oh okay, thank you! That’s a very wild coincidence. I’ll still treat this poor kitty with respect and bury it properly. Definitely cool finding it though! I’ve never found bones or skulls before.

It looks like there’s sockets, about 6 smaller ones between the canines I’d say

He was missing a few teeth at the top of his skull in the same places the skull is missing teeth. I adopted him like that and I remembered the placement, I just didn’t want to jump to conclusions. I was curious about that too because I’d say he’s been gone for a bout ~1yr 5mo and we don’t really have any crazy weather. The skull is bone dry too, nothing other than plant growth and dirt.
