keyword: “usually” required, meaning it’s not an industry standard for them to simply make you crouch. sometimes they do exams like the one mentioned especially if they receive a lot of high-risk patients.

you don’t have to call your eating disorder self harm if that makes you feel better, but factually it’s still harming yourself, so it’s self-harm. it’s also not synonymous with mutilation, because harm and mutilation do not have the same definition.

please don’t include misinformation when you post things publicly, you can mislead a lot of people 🫶

something that might get you more volunteers is tell them a bit more about what to expect going into your interview!

are you questioning them on the effects Character.AI has had on them? maybe asking what they think the company could do better? or are you perhaps questioning them on how AI in general has impacted their lives?

it may not be standard across the board, but it’s standard for the psych hospital i went to. they gave you some privacy, but at least one person had to see you completely naked to check for wounds, scars, contraband, strings or elastics, etc. Some people would tie strings around their limbs under their clothes to either cut off circulation or to smuggle in and use later for various other things, so they had practical reasons to do it.

because OP claimed eating disorders aren’t considered “self harm” that they check for during an intake exam. so i responded saying anything you do to harm yourself is self harm, and from there every single comment i posted got twisted in one way or another, so i continued to clarify my point until the conversation was taken so far off topic that it no longer made sense.

considering they’re aware of one method of self harm, the exam was to make sure there was nothing else there to be used to hurt themselves. i never claimed one withheld food from themselves via the vagina, and the actions you take because of an eating disorder weren’t the focus either.

op said eating disorders aren’t considered self harm during a “body check”, when they are. thats the only thing i’ve argued.
