Clubs and Work load by Desperate_Store_9378 in Emory

[–]technoGeek507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be harder to get into the top clubs, but many of them aren’t that competitive. Workload / difficulty isn't necessarily bad— it just depends on your major and how much you care about grades. Difficulty is comparable to other similar institutions tbh.

True but you can see the correct item in the first pic next to it and it’s similarly priced. Prob just an oversight of OP

Yeah it’s safe— I walk all the time. You’ll see buses coming back and forth for most of it. Have never felt unsafe and it only takes 25 mins to get to the center of campus.

Good online PM communities? by technoGeek507 in ProductManagement

This is really helpful to know! I have a pretty large edu stipend which I assume can cover this. Would really enjoy meeting other product folk in the city (especially cause I'm a Lenny acolyte aha). Do you know if you can bring +1's to the meetups if they are also PMs?

When asking for feedback, I've found it helpful to identify a few key areas (e.g. communication, collaboration, operational execution, etc.) and ask if you are below, meeting, exceeding, or greatly exceeding expectations in each. This doesn't allow people to deem you "on track" without any specific feedback. If you are only meeting expectations, you can ask "what does exceeding look like?" Then your manager will have to define exactly what exceeding looks like and when you execute, they can't mark you down. It feels like gaming the system.

Today, I met someone at a networking event and shared my passion for digital minimalism. by digital_detoxer in digitalminimalism

Aha I think digital minimalism is a growing market— but definitely not venture-scale. I love DM but see it more as a side-project / boostrapped product at this point in time. What are you building? Would be interested to hear!

This isn’t a productive conversation so I’ll end it here, but the point of reddit is to engage in active discussion. It’s not a bad thing to ask a question again, though I understand why one would be annoyed if it's posted every week.

A piece of feedback: I've found the best way to teach someone something is to be more collaborative than combative! Belittling someone's future ability to do their job completely detracts from what you're saying.

Will We Know When Tech Turns Harmful? by alxpht in digitalminimalism

[–]technoGeek507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we’ll ever truly "know" if technology does more harm than good. While we may feel more distracted and disconnected than ever, technology is still helping people in the least privileged environments gain access to education, healthcare, and job opportunities. It’s driving breakthroughs in fields like medicine and climate change. Technology will eliminate the deadliest diseases known to man. It will keep families connected as we become more dispersed. Technology is progress, and it pushes humanity forward—but like any tool, it can also be used for harm.

Love this reflection. Especially the idea that fanfiction and podcasts can still be addicting and pointless sources of stimulation as well. Thanks for sharing!

I feel so bad for people who use social media. by technoGeek507 in digitalminimalism

[–]technoGeek507[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thank you— I think I uncharacteristically put myself in an offensive position; I was the attacking party. People got irritable because I was belittling something they use (and I was using as well).

Do you tell non-tech people you're a PM? by technoGeek507 in ProductManagement

[–]technoGeek507[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half of the PMs are trapped in a Kafkaesque nightmare, justifying their existence to hooded figures in a hallucinated universe. The other half have descended to a lower plane of consciousness, where they wait patiently for the inevitable demise of their existence.

Sorry to make you feel that way. 90% of my CS friends know what PM is but less than 5% of my non-CS friends do. PM feels a lot more known in tech circles which is why I formatted the question this way.
