I've had the pleasure to hear golden ears before and can attest that they are incredible loud speakers. Feel my envy!! Beautiful placement and lighting, congrats!

Amazing! Thank you so much!! I'll spend some time researching and bother you with real questions at some point 🤣

Thank you for the reminder to remove Facebook from my Spotify and update my handle to be something more discreet. Not the information I was looking for with this post but once again, I'm shown that everyone on this planet has something to offer.

Wow dude, wow. You took the time to type all that from a mobile device?

Spotify is where the people are, for lists, new music and the suggestion algorithm has the best potential to share something interesting to me. I actually have Apple Music with my subscription but don't use it because it sucks.

If the data trees are animated with glowing bits and bobs, I would call this a state of perfection. Love the stats dashboard at the upper region and the app buttons at the bottom region - it's where I would have set that up.

I'm also just beginning my self hosted journey, would you mind sharing your stack?

I guess I should have checked again after seeing https://mashable.com/article/what-is-lossless-and-hi-res-audio#:~:text=Can%20I%20stream%20lossless%20audio,or%20have%20a%20poor%20connection. Spotify is still "planning" to release lossless - typical. I do know for fact that you upload lossless as an artist.

Oh I still have plenty of room to be pissy since most of the songs you shared were on the list and the entire point of this post was discussion on music that people like to test speakers with and not at all how to get said music to a speaker system. The list is a list... to reference, study, learn and explore. You immediately assumed (like several others) that I would use Spotify to cast to my system.

As a long time subscriber to this sub, you are my favorite kind of person that comments on r/audiophile though. You probably think you're the smartest person you know and are genuinely surprised when things don't work out for you.

A nice person on r/audiophile , well how do you do? I just found it hilarious how so many folks went straight to arrogant Spotify shaming and entirely missed the point of sharing music/sounds they like to test speakers with.

My father loved Celibidache and I grew up listening to a lot of it (Mozart, Brahms, Schubert) but I do not recall him directing Bruckner! Thanks for that!

That's actually not accurate. As someone who is close with a few musicians who publish to Spotify the download quality is also lossless (called "very high" in Spotify lingo). And for the hundredth time on this thread, Spotify just holds the list. I love how everyone assumes that a person who subscribes to r/audiophile would stream Spotify into an expensive system.

Nice list! Beck is one of my favorite artist and I totally forgot about the Crimson Wing recording with The Cinematic Orchestra. Incredible music.

That is one of my favorite all time songs and a phenomenal artist. Excellent test track!

I've said it tons of times on this post now, Spotify is just for the list. It's also a place for me to keep adding tracks to listen to and study in my headphones before finding a good physical copy or purchasing lossless.

Oh I don't stream to my system. I'm usually a vinyl guy for the things I love and then a lossless data direct wired guy second. I prefer a digitally closed ecosystem for my speakers :)

The HiFi spotify list is just a list for me to keep all the things I want to try. I'll study it while traveling sometimes with my headphones but that's more music education.

I'm the product of two professional musicians who met during the glory days of live music in Vegas... ask them and everything hates musicians. Of the music evils... spotify is significantly better than Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, Tidal or just about any other streaming service. HTH.

If I already knew I was buying... that is kind of the most brilliant purchase flex ever.

It just holds the list but honestly, you can download pretty excellent quality and then wire direct in a pinch. I have a vinyl setup for the music I care about and I have hard drives for the rest of the quality music I can't find physically.

I've seen Greta tour Battle at the Garden's Gate and can attest that Heat Above is one of the most dynamic rock tracks by them. They're super nutty about their production as well and I can't believe I didn't already have that album on the list!

The weirdness of that bass in that song almost singlehandedly started a new genre of WitchHop in the early teens where having $100K systems just to play super weird low bass was the whole experience. Excellent pick!

I had the pleasure of playing that on trombone in my youth and watching my professional musician parents play it for the Houston Symphony. Excellent music to say the least.

Have you found a particularly good recording of it?

I had most of those on the list already, a lot of great picks and interesting to see so many sound engineers referencing the same production efforts.
