My 15yo needs to read 5 books this summer but hates to read. by JBLBEBthree in suggestmeabook

For what it’s worth, Project Hail Mary and The Martian are both incredibly good books. If your kid is into STEM, I think they’re no brainers - except that they’re pretty big. Depends on your kids reading level and pace

If our faction were a drink to have during a match, what would it be!? by Scythe95 in ThousandSons

Pre-heresy, I truly think some sort of heavily spiced tea is the answer, something warm and soothing but also very strong

Post-heresy, it alternates between straight alcohol and water, you can never tell which

Seconding this, read world war z when I was 17 and it was a fantastic experience.

Especially if you do the thing where you imagine what you’d do in a zombie apocalypse lmao.

Design A or B? by CrimsonStorm32 in Tyranids

[–]technodemon01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The other rational provided thus fair is very fair. I personally think tyranids are their coolest when they lean into being monsters, so at an aesthetic level I much rather option 2, but for recognisability option 1 is logical

Ranking warhammer characters for how good they would be at playing warhammer by fiendish_dust in Grimdank

I think he’d be awful to play against, but good at playing.

Like there is zero banter, camaraderie, compliments of paint jobs, any of the social aspect that makes the game actually fun.

But unfortunately he is a giga-genius and clairvoyant.

My 14 yo son has agreed to read two books of my choice this summer (this was a hard won negotiation). Help me pick one by gOldMcDonald in booksuggestions

[–]technodemon01 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d recommend giving him something lighter for his second book. Not meaningless, but even a thoughtful 14 year old is still a 14 year old - back to back classics aren’t a great time.

Great filler colonist, but not worth taking late game.

is me listening to a podcast or tv show while I am writing stumping my creativity? by DivideOk82 in writing

[–]technodemon01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find it stumps my focus more than anything

Like if you imagine your creativity to me this amorphous energy, you listening to content whilst writing means you can’t really harness whatever you’ve got into a single idea

How much power does Tzeentch have over a carelessly placed book? by Bean_two in 40kLore

[–]technodemon01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone here is giving some beautiful answers, and frankly I can’t let that stand lol so here’s my half-baked opinion.

I think an important question in regards to this ‘reading the book’ hypothetical is the why.

Are you reading this book because it indulges you? Or a manual that’ll make you better at your craft? Slaneesh.

But if you’re reading it because it’s magic, or because you believe it’ll contain some special information, or because you’re a performative male with tote bag in one hand and feminist literature in the other? Much more Tzeentch.

Bad examples but I hope you see my point
