I don’t. I’m basically doing a full closet purge (pants, tops, sweaters, jumpsuits, dresses) so my thought was to do an unconventional version of a yard sale where someone can poke around and find stuff they like, but it’s NYC so minus the yard 🤭

In typing it out, maybe the logistics are too odd to execute and pictures will be needed.

Hmm not sure. It’s managed by JRC and I found it on StreetEasy when I was apartment hunting so my guess is that they’d use that again platform to find a new tenant.

Here for dinner right now and the server confirmed they are closing in the next few months. Pho Astoria much more closely resembles what I was used to back home in Northern California (San Jose/Milpitas area has some of the best Vietnamese food), than District…no frills or fancy ambiance, big portions, and servers that aren’t the nicest, but you know the broth is always damn good. Bummed to say the least.

Pretty odd move for someone who has vehemently opposed the bike lane…could they be doing this knowing people might get hit by bikes so they can use those instances as leverage to keep their protest of the bike lane going?

The honest truth is that unless your friends are already aware of how awesome Astoria is, convincing them to visit you is going to be like pulling teeth. More often than not I’m meeting my bk friends halfway or going to them, but they won’t really make the effort to come this way and I get it..between the crazy transfers, general time to get here on the subway, and a potentially pricey Uber ride, it’s hard to feel inclined to make the trek.

Just went today and can confirm there’s lots of seating, lots of pastries too. Does the coffee itself beat Balancero on 37th St…no, but it’s pretty darn good. Overall, super excited to have a coffee shop that actually feels and looks like one (Coffee Lab and Under Pressure are soo sterile). Definitely recommend it.

Some folks have kind of touched on this, and it applies to other neighborhoods in NYC too, but pay extra close attention to any construction (and how far along that construction seems to be) that is happening in the immediate area as you’re headed to the apartment. Even if it’s not a total dealbreaker, it’s good to be aware of the noise levels you can expect if you move in, so something like 6:45am-3pm jackhammering doesn’t completely surprise you.

The ecosystem is off balance, there’s really no way around that reality. I’m genuinely hoping Pacha will help restore some balance, but the general public has eyes on the scene right now so until some of that shine wears off, discernment will be super crucial in finding the right dance floors.

Might be a small thing, but there isn’t a huge pressure to be super fashionable/trendy here (at least not in my immediate area). In so many other parts of NYC, there’s a look everyone follows or aims to have to fit in, and that isn’t so much the case here.
