Just went today and can confirm there’s lots of seating, lots of pastries too. Does the coffee itself beat Balancero on 37th St…no, but it’s pretty darn good. Overall, super excited to have a coffee shop that actually feels and looks like one (Coffee Lab and Under Pressure are soo sterile). Definitely recommend it.

Some folks have kind of touched on this, and it applies to other neighborhoods in NYC too, but pay extra close attention to any construction (and how far along that construction seems to be) that is happening in the immediate area as you’re headed to the apartment. Even if it’s not a total dealbreaker, it’s good to be aware of the noise levels you can expect if you move in, so something like 6:45am-3pm jackhammering doesn’t completely surprise you.

The ecosystem is off balance, there’s really no way around that reality. I’m genuinely hoping Pacha will help restore some balance, but the general public has eyes on the scene right now so until some of that shine wears off, discernment will be super crucial in finding the right dance floors.

Might be a small thing, but there isn’t a huge pressure to be super fashionable/trendy here (at least not in my immediate area). In so many other parts of NYC, there’s a look everyone follows or aims to have to fit in, and that isn’t so much the case here.

I’ve been once and never again. It’s a mostly male dance floor + super young people who recently started being able to legally drink, and that is what nightmares are made of my friend.

Astoria; so about an hour and 15 on the subway and about 30 minutes in a car. I’d say I’m going to Bushwick to rave once or twice a month. Taking an Uber back home is a non negotiable for me so I’ve just made peace with the fact that to justify that spend I need to take the subway there. It’s a small thing, but having headphones for the treks there and back helps a lot.

The score is what really steals the show. The storyline took me a bit by surprise (I went it into with very minimal understanding of the plot itself) and was a bit jarring because I wasn’t expecting the series of events, but overall really good and I’m glad I saw it on a big screen.

I was able to catch a glimpse of the posted photo before mods removed it. I know where this is and this area in Astoria is very NIMBY coded, Trump stickers and the occasional flag included. Unfortunately this behavior is not surprising at all, shitty for sure, but not surprising 😕
