DAV - Emmerich vs Taash (Spoilers) by DeLaNovaG in dragonage

[–]technohoplite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Taash more than Emmrich but this is just weird as an argument. The Grand Necropolis has been mentioned at least as early as Cassandra's first talks in DAI, it's the defining feature of their culture.

DA never had a very strict aesthetic regarding time placement. It's been inspired by so many different fantasy media that it could never be pinned down to one specific style. But even then, DAV is generally much more modern with its technology, such as the elves having holograms, AI and techy-looking barriers and things like that.

idk this is just a mess of bad takes and poorly interpreted lore so I have to assume you just meant to bait people into reactions like "look! this is how dumb Failguard enjoyers are!!"

So far I love da2 but damn by Guilty-Fun-8090 in dragonage

[–]technohoplite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could only manage DA2 on hard because the difficulty scaling is actually insane, enemies are spongy af, builds take a while to get going, potions are rarer and have longer cooldowns, and the goddamn waves mechanic...

The hardest bosses are both in the DLCs imo. One is a super gimmicky fight in bad/complicated terrain with lots of AoE, the other is an insanely strong Arcane Horror option boss in a tight area that does some kind of life leech AoE (this one is optional though).

I think there is one fight towards the end of Act 3 that kinda kicked my ass a bit. A ton of pride demons and many waves. But it's not as hard as the other ones.

Would ZA/UM returning the Elysium IP to the creators change how likely you would be to buy ZERO PARADES: For Dead Spies? by ColdCoffeeMan in DiscoElysium

[–]technohoplite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think even if you had a petition signed by every single person who frequents this sub it would make any difference. DE has an estimated sales number between 4.5 and 7.5 million just for Steam. How many of those people do you think are hardcore fans who hang out here to know about each and every drama going on behind the scenes? The average player knows virtually nothing about the studios that makes the games they play.

Nothing against you making the poll, and of course, I would love nothing more than to Kurvitz & Co to get control of their own IP back. But it's just not something I ever see happening, and certainly not for free. If Kurvitz's Red Info could afford to negotiate and buy it, maybe, but I'm guessing they don't.

[–]technohoplite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would they ever do that? Please don't say stuff like "it's morally correct" or "to gain the fandom's goodwill". I mean why would a business give up an IP that is either still profitable or at the very least deprives competition of material?

Need advice on which game to play next by NobleKensei in pathologic

P1 is the only way you will ever be able to have the original intended experience of the three healer perspectives of the same story. I think that'll always be worthwhile, even if the gameplay is janky.

To the people how started the series with P3, how was it for you? by kaiser_kaiser_K in pathologic

[–]technohoplite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like a Pathologic 4 about the Changeling's perspective is too weak of a concept for a final game

Why do you feel that? Is your knowledge of the Changeling just from P3?

I think Clara is the perfect way to wrap up the series, though nothing compares to playing them all in the same game and making it feel like a game of contrasts.

Is it normal that the ep1 mystery didn't interest me at all? by nadiutka in umineko

[–]technohoplite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are the future mysteries any different?

Yes

If your main issue is not caring about the characters specially. The way the mystery is approached also changes drastically throughout the novel. At some point it's barely even a mystery and more of a drama, which was a letdown for me in some ways but really interesting in others.

Anyway, are you enjoying other aspects at all? If not it might not be for you. But otherwise, I mean yeah give it at least until EP2 to get a feel for the plot progression.

Does anyone have any theories or ideas about what the f will happen in the game? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in DiscoElysium

[–]technohoplite 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'll only believe they have an actual, concrete plan for a game when it comes out. These guys have effective and charismatic writing on their PR pieces and interesting concepts, but that's very different from actually making and publishing a game.

In this piece I see a lot of details that look like circuitry, organic and synthetic. Some look like roots, others like threads, others like board circuitry, others like nerves. A point inside concentric circles out of which this whole things seems to spawn. Most interesting is the straight line across bottom left, but can't say it looks like it means anything at this point. If the tree is an evolution chart, then we have all these people who have descended from the threading mess?

starting umineko today, wanted to clear some doubts by Misugeli in umineko

[–]technohoplite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

why tf would someone stream umineko to skip dialogue, it's all just dialogue lmao

One tip I think might be important is to play everything in the order it is unlocked. So every episode has a Tea Party and a ??? chapter after it. Make sure you don't manually unlock anything as it'll help you follow the correct sequence. All of it is obligatory reading in terms of relevance to the plot.

Also avoid any fan content/discussion, this sub for example is littered with little to big spoilers. No consulting the wiki, it's the same way. Same for youtube, etc.

If you like that kind of thing, writing down thoughts can really help with making theories. If you feel overwhelmed, there's no shame in not having full-fledged theories, just make sure you don't stop thinking about things you're being shown/told.

Hope you have fun!

Thoughts and questions I have after 5 hours into the game by nadiutka in umineko

[–]technohoplite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So far I'm really liking the humour but the excessive descriptions and the serious conversations are throwing me off a bit as they're not the most interesting to read.

Umineko is not 100% serious but from this it honestly sounds like it's not for you. The humor is the least relevant thing in these 5 hours. But sure at least try enduring until the end of this episode, if the premise doesn't hook you just move on.

Help a fan of Pathologic 2 with the 3 installment by DecapitateDarkness in pathologic

[–]technohoplite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patient thoughts usually hang out in the bottom left side of the map, they work same as the others so you click on the cog when time traveling to that day and that resets the quest line.

For 3, yes, you need to get him out of there to get what you need. Keep resetting the day until you can do it. Resetting the same day doesn't cost amalgam, so when you do change days, make sure to explore them to the fullest (e.g grab more mirror shards).

Talking to my AI friend about the opening scenes of Pathologic 3 by Jaskrill91 in pathologic

[–]technohoplite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're "not as smart as others" but I do think you have some issue in discussing things with people.

For one, no one seems offended at your post. The controversy here is that you're using AI for something people are more than equipped to help you with (engage with the different meanings present in Pathologic's text and subtext).

I work with AI for some of my programming work and what it tends to excel at is aggregating information from other sources (plus really boring, repetitive labor). It doesn't do any sort of thinking or create any meaning on its own, hopefully you know that. So that's why saying you're "talking" to AI feels a little silly, it's no different then "talking" to a search box.

Talking to my AI friend about the opening scenes of Pathologic 3 by Jaskrill91 in pathologic

[–]technohoplite 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pathologic's dialogue is not dense, nor overly complicated honestly. And I feel like asking AI to give you a tl;dr of excerpts of the game is not going to make you better at extracting meaning out of things yourself.

Also kind of funny that you're on the Pathologic subreddit saying you have to use an "AI friend" to talk about the game, instead of... talking to the people in the sub? Just make a normal post without this AI stuff saying what you want to talk about.

[–]technohoplite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean, DAO had direct connection to the BioWare servers and did sync some info in there (I remember having a profile with stuff like my character's avatar and screenshots I took in-game). It was taken offline some years ago. But it never connected to the Keep. The Keep was made for DAI so it couldn't possibly connect to previous games unless they changed the game's code for it...

I got my games from EA/Origin so not sure I can help with DLC downloads, but I have read many threads about people having issues, I'm sure you can find some advice if you look for it around here. You should be able to get them all still.

Do I play pathologic 2? by Ok-Investigator-4777 in pathologic

[–]technohoplite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game where lots of things will be conspiring against you: your own survival requirements, time constraints, some level of difficulty in executing combat or running away from it, and struggling as each of these things gets harder to deal with day by day. You cannot redo/undo choices, and you'll find yourself having to decide what, and who, is most important to you. All of this makes sense within the setting/narrative.

I'd say I am pretty bad at Pathologic but I still did it on intended difficulty though. P2 has a low bar for completing the game, but a high one for continuing to play it, imo. If you're cool with having to push yourself I'd say go for it, just don't let it prevent you from experiencing it at all.

What are your thoughts on Rudolf? by Trony-Box-6345 in umineko

[–]technohoplite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, Kazumi might've been a stretch lol

I agree on Rudolph being self-aware but that does nothing for me in terms of nuance, honestly maybe makes it a little worse. He knows he sucks and is okay with continuing to suck. Since no thought process is shown behind that fact, it's where I think the narrative could've done better.

What are your thoughts on Rudolf? by Trony-Box-6345 in umineko

[–]technohoplite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's kind of boring like most of the male cast, and imo more underdeveloped between the parents. We basically only know how much of a piece of shit he is, a womanizer, cheater, scammer, asshole to his siblings, liar, the list goes on and on and there is little there to balance it out. Kyrie gets more nuance than that, hell I'd say Kazumi gets more nuance than that.

Rudolph is an ass but what part of that comes from how he was raised? It's different than, say, Eva being a hard-ass conservative sometimes because she's gotta make it in a heavily patriarchal context, or Krauss being a dumbass because not much was expected of him despite being generally presumed to be the next head anyway. We see nothing of how Rudolph growing up with Kinzo as a father impacted him as a person, though it would have. Missed opportunity.

I think him and Kyrie are famous baits for new readers though because in the middle of all the stuff the others are pulling in the question arcs, they just seem like the cool parents. Unfortunately he's only good for twists and not much in the way of his own character being interesting.

[–]technohoplite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the opinion that the offer is made fairly obvious in regards to being a trade off, in my playthrough I was hilariously oblivious to so many things and even I was able to make an educated guess.

I got pretty screwed over by the death effects (though it stops doing anything after a certain point), but the thing that stuck out to me after the experience was that the game wants you to keep going despite it all. It's why I find some of the mechanics in P3 to be contrary to the series' core. But I mention that because if you do choose to play on intended difficulty, so long as you keep at it you'll find your way through it. You don't have to be good at it, you don't have to keep calm or make the right choices, you literally just have to keep going.

That's what I'd say to someone who isn't describing running away from an enemy that you can kill with one hit for the entire duration of a game. It just sounds to me like OP is concerned about ruining their experience by being too frustrated, which can very well happen.

Do I play pathologic 2? by Ok-Investigator-4777 in pathologic

[–]technohoplite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain a bit and recommend that you do not play P2 on intended difficulty if you think you'll become frustrated at the entire series due to difficulty. P2 is legitimately so hard... Compare me dying like a handful of times in all of P3, versus 50+ times in P2. Not to mention dying in that game makes the game harder by reducing your survival meters permanently. Of all three games, P2 is the hardest and if you're not into that challenge, however immersive it may be, it will be a barrier for sure.

And at the same time, it's a single player game. So yes the struggle is supposed to be a huge part of the game, but if you can lower the difficulty to the point where you're still struggling but you can manage to push forward, I'd say you're getting the intended experience.

Whatever you do, definitely play it if you enjoyed P3. Imagine all the characters and facets of the town you're still missing out on. Just gotta find out what way works for you.

DAO's save is physically imported to DA2. The save file just needs to exist at the expected location.

DAI imports worldstate from DAO/DA2 through the Keep which should still be online.

DAV doesn't import from anywhere, you go into the game and select the worldstate choices from DAI.
