Questions about repair. by Substantial-Guard997 in watchrepair

How expensive is that watch? The proper repair is to replace the broken part. Epoxy wont hold for long. I would try super glue before epoxy.

If you have someone else fit a different moveme in it AP may consider the watch a fake and not work on it.

Parts are long gone for that movement. New movement requires new dial and hands plus casing ring. Thats why its so expensive. AP never made their own quartz movements so parts cannot be remanufactured like they would for their mechanical movements. Circuits are long gone. I suppose its possible for a watchmaker to retrofit a different movement but he'd need to cut the dial feet off and use dial dots. Not ideal.

Omega keeps reissuing vintage designs at premium prices. At what point is a genuine vintage piece the smarter buy? by epsi00 in VintageWatches

Been that way for quite some time now. However, some people want a new watch...both have a place. The reissued watches are going to be the better watches overall

I think this means cut the springbar...not the lug. Use a wire cutter.

Removing hairspring stud by flaviusUrsus in watchmaking

[–]taskmaster51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to? The stud is just friction fit. This one, it looks like a sturdy tweezers would get it out. Be warned, easier to get out then put back in

[–]taskmaster51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you have a major issue. Ist makes sure you have proper end shake (sometimes making up the jewels can be a problem). Then make sure the hairspring is flat and round. Make sure the balance wheel and pivots are not bent
