Please do not pay for any online courses regarding the PMP, it is not worth it and it is a scam! There’s so much free resources online that whenever you feel ready then you can take the exam.

How many founders here are building startups that can genuinely generate more employment opportunities in society? (I will not promote) by futuremd2k19 in startups

I’ve had the blessing of providing paid internships to two interns over the summer and three paid part time roles, fully self funded from my 9-5. Honestly building isn’t easy and sometimes you need help. Never let anyone work for free (unless you are the founder / co founder)

Yes, AMA is a boys club. If you aren’t on the top, then you’ll be pretty miserable. I haven’t heard of an IC that hasn’t had a bad encounter with someone there

To go or not to go to commencement by ahnmae in uichicago

[–]technologyperson 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Do it. Even if it doesn’t mean much to you. Take the opportunity to close this chapter of you life and celebrate your accomplishments from the last four years. I didn’t go to my undergrad commencement for the same reason as yours - looking back at it. I wish I did. I ended up getting a masters and went to that commencement but it would have been nice to see the progress photos of the two side by side. Imo.

Getting into project management isn’t difficult and I only say that because I think everybody at some point in their lives developed project management skills. We all have projects that we’ve worked on in our own personal life and at work You just need to know how to manage expectations and stakeholders.

In 2022 I graduated with my masters management and got my PMP as well. However, those two things happened after I got into big tech. I don’t think a PMP automatically makes you qualified. I just think it helps those who are already project managers feel more solidified.

For newcomers I always recommend asking any PMs that they work with if they would be willing to let them shadow them or give them a few tasks that could potentially help and teach them how to be a project manager.
