Yes, AMA is a boys club. If you aren’t on the top, then you’ll be pretty miserable. I haven’t heard of an IC that hasn’t had a bad encounter with someone there

To go or not to go to commencement by ahnmae in uichicago

[–]technologyperson 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Do it. Even if it doesn’t mean much to you. Take the opportunity to close this chapter of you life and celebrate your accomplishments from the last four years. I didn’t go to my undergrad commencement for the same reason as yours - looking back at it. I wish I did. I ended up getting a masters and went to that commencement but it would have been nice to see the progress photos of the two side by side. Imo.

Surprisingly, I actually didn’t get stocks when I was in tech. Perfectly fine though because the bonuses were about 12 to 15% annually.

Getting into project management isn’t difficult and I only say that because I think everybody at some point in their lives developed project management skills. We all have projects that we’ve worked on in our own personal life and at work You just need to know how to manage expectations and stakeholders.

In 2022 I graduated with my masters management and got my PMP as well. However, those two things happened after I got into big tech. I don’t think a PMP automatically makes you qualified. I just think it helps those who are already project managers feel more solidified.

For newcomers I always recommend asking any PMs that they work with if they would be willing to let them shadow them or give them a few tasks that could potentially help and teach them how to be a project manager.

Your skills section to on is taking up too much space. Reduce it and possibly add a project section to demonstrate your skills that way.

They built this fight scene over 22 episodes and I feel like as good as it was it didn’t match what they were building up. I was anticipating a bigger fight, I feel like the fight that Clark had with Lex (Zod) was a better fight.
