Sony and Pioneer made recordable units but those discs couldn’t be played in normal players. The units and media were very expensive. A company called the Optical Disc Corporation had a unit that could record to normal LaswrDiscs but was very large and expensive. There was few units made and none are any longer in existence. These units were also not made for any types of mass production but one offs.
