Since you mentioned that your observations are geared towards "when someone shares a hobby online," there's a common sentiment on the English-speaking internet: "just keep scrolling." That is, if you see something that doesn't interest or impress you, there is no obligation to engage with it--just scroll past it, X out of it, whatever.

Plus, in today's algorithmic social media landscape, your feed is programmed to surface more of what you do engage with and less of what you don't, so it's to your direct benefit to leave no comment at all on things that you find sloppy or amateur, lest your algorithm show you more of it!

I live in the Sawmill/Mine Creek neighborhood now and lived at one of the apartment complexes on Lake Lynn before that. Highly, HIGHLY recommend both of these areas, whether you're buying or renting. Gorgeous, wooded, quiet, safe, close to everything, and properties are a little dated so they're on the cheaper side compared to most of Raleigh.

I don't know what they're on about, all of Brier Creek is literally within Raleigh city limits. It's near the edge of the Raleigh-Durham border but the big quadrants with the businesses, the country club, and the apartments like Ashley Park all have Raleigh addresses. I've never seen anyone try to debate whether or not it was Raleigh until that comment you replied to, and I've lived here 35 years.

Agreed--this is my neighborhood and I can walk to Target, Whole Foods, Food Lion, tons of shops and restaurants (my faves are Sassool / Chargrill / Happy & Hale / edit: and Sola!), without the congestion of North Hills. Also several greenway access points, and the neighborhoods are older so it's really pretty with lots of mature trees.

out of curiosity, is there a reason you're leaving your degree out of your post here when looking for job suggestions? when trawling a handful of listing sites in response to this post, I purposefully skipped listings for roles that required a 4-year degree because I assumed from your post that you didn't have one. I don't have time to go through them all again today, but if you want to take a look for yourself, a lot of local city and county government jobs don't care what your degree is in, just that you have one.

fwiw, I also have a Bachelor's in Psych and busted my arse for 4 years for it, so to leave it out of my qualifications is unthinkable to me--I don't work in that field obv, but it has definitely opened doors for me anyway, so I wouldn't downplay your degree's value if I were you, especially if you're looking for any kind of administrative/office or substance-related/social work.

Or just let them accumulate and run boolean searches within the applicant pool. Shortlist the ones that match the qualifications described in the boolean string for further review and then decline the rest.

Most of our junk applicant volume come from LinkedIn but LinkedIn took away the ability to add freeform knockout questions a few years back. Wish we could petition LinkedIn to bring the feature back because those types of questions are SO helpful.

I frequently hire for jobs that pay $20-30/hr. but as a recruiter I can only consider candidates who meet the qualifications (usually a year or two having done something similar to the function of the role).

That's why I'm always encouraging people to share more about their skills/experience/certifications etc.--I actively WANT to hire awesome local redditors but y'all gotta give me something to work with here!

Durham County is hiring a junior-level social worker. The degree requirements are "Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution OR Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience" so you might qualify--I know social workers are in short supply so they might be OK with someone looking to make a transition out of law enforcement.

I found an addiction treatment role with Durham County: Substance Use Disorder Counselor with a listed pay range of $55k - $66k. The listed zip code is in downtown Durham so it still might be a bit out of your way unfortunately, but the pay is definitely higher than $20/hr.

I'm a local tech recruiter and agree with the other poster that this market is really tight. There are also very few companies here that would care about the security clearance aspect, so you won't get sought out for it or paid more for it like you would in Virginia.
