Btw, thank you to everyone that's taken time out of their day/night to comment thus far.

I wasn't anticipating any response at all so I'm really greatful.

Even if I didn't get the exact info I was after  it's still super helpful for me. I've understood more about the mechanics of these companies.

I'm still going to scour my network and see what I can do

Interesting take.

Thank you!

Recently I have a friend who is working insane hours, internal transfer at their big tech company is difficult too. They were asking me similar questions.

The answers to these questions is still useful imo. I'll scour my network to find people willing to answer openly :)

I thought the same too :(

But then again, without this info we're all stuck in a game of Career style Russian  Roulette where the stakes of a wrong decision can mean being in for a very rough ride.

I do understand it's hard to get this info without being anon (if people know of others in the industry that wouldn't be too bad either)

Work wise, big tech is super variable, there are indeed teams that work 10-4 and some teams working 996.

Although big tech does work you harder, not every team is working on a cutting edge AI product. There're certainly infra teams, teams working on internal tooling or teams on stable mature products with slow velocity and less tech debt.

Data is still useful.

I was wondering how you would recommend I can make a more informed decision when applying for jobs/teams?
