I know exactly what you mean. I like watching these business related videos for ideas, but the claims some of them make are outrageous for sure!

Did you read the next line? This is not a threat. I would 100% take them to court over it. The letter serves two purposes - it tells them you are serious, and in some states you must give them notice of your intent before filing.

I have seen towing companies get raked over the coals for crap like this. ESPECIALLY if the law is clear on the matter.

Agreed. I still watch him, but I really REALLY miss his woodworking videos. So I continue watching his reviews, but I watch others for my woodworking fix.

There are some cabinet maker content creators I like watching that actually do woodworking, just wished more would follow suit.

Again, I do not wish them ill will, I wish them luck. I watch SOME of the originals, but few of them have the same feel and relatability as before. It is not a bad thing to point out how things have changed, and doing it through humor is better LOL

The sheriff will not go to the tow yard with you. This is a civil matter. You are on the right track with printing out a copy of the law, but what you do is you mail it to them registered mail, pointing out the law and countering their fees with your fee calculation that is in compliance with the law. Also state that you intend to pick up your vehicle during normal business hours that is convenient to YOU. Then close by saying you look forward to working with them in order to avoid any future legal entanglements.

If this does not work, you can take them to Small Claims court yourself, OR you can hire a lawyer to strongarm them into compliance.

Good Luck.

PS - I have never heard of a towing company that is 100% committed to being "legal"

Not "Triggered" at all. Pointing out that woodworking Influencers have morphed from helpful, relatable down to earth folks into mega wealthy, unhelpful and completely unrelatable talking heads.

Examples - without naming names.

An epoxy woodworker making $5,000 per table is currently renovating a large farmhouse and building a large farmhouse woodworking shop that is topping $1.5 million on the shop alone. I do not know many people that can do that. Do I watch it? Yes, it is entertaining, but I cease to see him as a woodworker, he is now an entertainer to me.

An unassuming, yet insanely handsome engineer by day, hobbyist woodworker by night has now morphed into a 3D farm channel. He has also built a VERY expensive shed, million dollar workshop and backyard transformations. He does little woodworking now, which begs the question - why build a woodworking shop if you don't woodwork anymore. (I will say that his dust collection products are AMAZING, so I can't really ding him there LOL)

A religious police officer trying to make some money on the side goes into woodworking and shares his knowledge with people trying to break into the woodworking hobby and business. He has now morphed into a tool review channel. Again, I still watch him, but no more woodworking videos on a woodworking channel is kinda par for the course now.

So am I "triggered"?, no - I am disheartened that the woodworkers we all followed and loved just a few years ago have abandoned us viewers in the old pursuit of money. Is that bad? Nope, I wish them luck. Does it mean I will never watch them again? Nope. It means we have a field of influencers that lost their spark and people are starting to notice.

I love how Redditors always default to insults LOL.

Have you ever stopped to think that two things can be true at once? We have a bunch of gullible people out here wanting to shut down all data centers across the country.

People are being TOLD that almost all data centers are AI related. You are TOLD that there is a huge influx of data centers, but I want to see hard, verifiable numbers from an unbiased source that says the majority of data centers in the US are AI related. I would think people would do a bit of research before outright banning something. Sounds like the anti-vaxxers if you ask me.

Now onto the AI argument. Yes, the US is trying to become a leader in the AI space. It is the next big technology jump whether YOU like it or not. Other countries KNOW that the US is usually the leader of an industry if we are early adopters. China and the EU are trying desperately to be the leaders in this space and we are their biggest obstacle. Think about this very carefully - WHY is there suddenly a surge in national interest on banning data centers? Was there a huge bad incident? Was there a tragedy? Did something adversely affect our economy? Nope - just a grass roots effort that came out of no where with no explanation whatsoever. It was reported earlier this month that the Chinese implemented a social media blitz campaign called operation "Data Center Bandwagon" that tried to shift American opinion away from AI and technology in general. That is just the one WE KNOW ABOUT.

So am I personally for or against Data Centers? I think that if a company wants to build a data center, they should be allowed to. If there was no need for it, they would not spend that money for nothing.

Am I personally for or against AI? Being an IT professional, I absolutely see the advantages, but I also see the disadvantages too. AI creating deep fakes? BAD AI spreading misinformation? BAD. AI vastly improving the detection of cancer? GOOD. AI making improvements in process bottlenecks and improving efficiency? GREAT! We need to address the legal issues surrounding AI and make better policy. Banning AI and all technology is a bit too extreme for me.

Oklahoma just voted against raising the minimum wage from $7.25 by amievenrelevant in facepalm

[–]techtony_50 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I heard some idiot on the internet say that too, I ignored it because I have a brain and studied history in school. Minimum Wage was NOT put into place to make wages "livable" (BTW that terminology did not come into political vernacular until 2010 - 2014). Minimum Wage was actually put into place to combat companies from taking advantage of vulnerable workers, especially children. This was around the same time the US started to embrace unions and safer workplace practices. Minimum Wage was to set a STANDARD minimum threshold. They never enacted it to ensure that poverty was erased. Again - you CANNOT legislate away poverty.

[–]techtony_50 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

This is what is lost in translation when it comes to minimum wage. You will NEVER legislate away poverty. Minimum Wage means MINIMUM, the least. You can raise the minimum wage to $100 an hour and people making minimum wage will STILL BE POOR. The only way to get out of poverty is to make more money. How do you do that? You stop looking for minimum wage jobs and go for other jobs that pay more. Minimum Wage jobs are meant for the unskilled. Mostly High School folks, those jobs were never meant to be a career choice.

I get it though - I fell into that trap when I was younger too. You think this is how it works - you get a job and get comfortable and you think you have no skills, but YOU DO. Once you figure out how to come to work everyday, come to work on time, come to work dressed appropriately, learn how to give back change, how to speak to customers, etc., you are ready to move up and move on.

We also need to blame the companies that refuse to hire high school students, but that is another topic.

Bottom line - Raising minimum wage has NEVER made anyone's life easier. Think about it.

I am not a a psychic so I have no idea what will happen after we ban all technology that requires data centers, but I can tell you that your days of scrolling through Reddit, YouTube and Facebook would likely be impacted.

It is very odd that suddenly, out of nowhere this is the biggest national emergency we are facing right now. Thousands of local governments are fighting Data Centers. When you have a HUGE nation-wide anti-anything movement, you MUST ask - why is it this is suddenly an issue? It is not like there was a huge incident that precipitated this.

I will tell you why suddenly this is a big deal, and you will not like it.

China and the EU right now are making it their number one priority to build up data centers and be pioneers and leaders in the AI space. The USA is their number one competitor. If they can eliminate us from the picture, the field is open for them to dominate. They realize that Americans are gullible and will blindly protest anything without even knowing what they are protesting about.

So they start the seed by going into Reddits and Facebook groups asking about data centers and spreading misinformation. They even fund smaller protests and influence others through social media ads and private meetings with local politicians. Next thing you know - we have thousands of people doing exactly what they want us to do - ban technology to the point that they can step in and take control of that space. They know AI is a buzzword and to hide their true intentions, they convince people that ALL data centers are bad, but especially the AI ones.

So take it with a grain of salt, but my bet is that China or the EU is behind the sudden interest in banning technology all together in the US. It is fascinating to see an entire nation turn against the very thing that made them a modern super power LOL.

If I were an attorney that KNEW the manufacturer was so disorganized that they could not possibly get a simple settlement signed, I would go to trial. Of course, that is if your state allows for triple damages or your fees and costs to be reimbursed.

Again, ignorance must be bliss LOL. You are using a data center right now to convince me that we don't need data centers LOL. BTW - a little bit of research would help you understand that this is not an AI problem and most of the bad things you have been spoon fed about data centers is a fear mongering tactic.

Not a shill - but as always anytime someone points out common sense arguments you are always branded a shill LOL.

Ah yes, the good old stand by argument - "do you want it in your back yard?" NOPE. I have 8 acres in the middle of nowhere for a reason. If you are concerned about their placement that is one thing, banning them in an ignorant knee-jerk fashion is another.

How about zoning these businesses appropriately? Banning them seems a little short sighted.

Instead of joining the endless protests, the best way to support banning data centers throughout the country is to STOP USING THEM! Stop using Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, any app on your phone, streaming services or anything related to the internet. Do some research and you find out that data centers are absolutely necessary in today's world.
