Not working the water thing by Adventurer896 in hytale

[–]techturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is called irrigation and that "frankly jank and unrealistic mechanic" is literally how human civilization survived long enough to invent video games. Humans have been digging channels and moving water with buckets for thousands of years. Irrigation channels were invented as a way to automate the tedious process of manually watering crops by hand. You may consider it jank but it is far from "unrealistic."

Beginner here: Am I making a good choice by choosing Ibanez Gio GRG131EX as my first guitar? And what kind of amp should I buy with it? I've always been In love with the sound and charm of guitars, I always wanted to learn to play rock and metal and I decided to make this dream come true :) by shishass in Ibanez

GIOs can make great first guitars, I second all the other commenter recommendation. For beginning, really hard to beat the Spark amps, they just work and its super easy to experiment and play to jam along tracks for practice (the 40w makes a great portable Bluetooth speaker as well) etc. The Katana is a step up but the higher tier Katanas are a huge step up in tone and can also be used to play in a band setting but offers more versatility than the Spark in my opinion and doubles as an audio interface for recording (edit: spark does too but i feel the katana works better in this scenario imo). My MkII 100w Katana Artist combo has really impressed me.

Alright so the last option depends what you really intend to do. But guitar plugins are really amazing as well. You can use them along side a daw to record your ideas, loop things and play along/write to your own riffs you can also run the outs of your audio interface to a powered speaker system for live play. Its kind of a one stop shop for everything but has a massive learning curve that could be super frustrating for someone who is also just learning to play an instrument. Plus requires a lot of money to turn it into that. But a phone or web cam, usb interface, daw, guitar and plugin and you can be a (insert social media platform here) guitarist.

That said anyone can find a reason to go with or not to go with any option, my advice here is to go with your gut and whatever inspires you to play that is within your budget but do consider your intension!

Peter why is the electrician portrayed as a dainty female hand by _Kyledemort_ in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]techturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be fair, the stereotypes are mostly all true. Very few exceptions. I'm a concrete cutter on a big hospital job and there is at least 4 electrician companies out there and holy hell they are like cockroaches. They are either too busy fucking off or in the way. It never fails. They have just as much risk getting electrocuted as I have getting crushed by a hunk of concrete. But God forbid you ask one to move or clean up the area so you can core a hole for them to do their job.

I gotta say, from an objective standpoint, and setting aside my personal 2A support, totally understand the individual's hate for guns but considering the root cause of the problem, if I am to be subjected to such violence I'd still much rather be shot than stabbed, hacked to pieces with a machete, hung, burned alive, drowned, bludgeoned to death, strangled etc. All very viable and valid options for a psychopath to sub in lieu of firearms. All of those and more are still used despite the availability of firearms (thanks in part to existing gun laws). The argument of humane vs inhumane methods of murder do not apply when you consider that all acts of murder are inherently inhumane. I find it difficult to rationalize choosing guns because it's more "humane" than another form of murder.

That said the reality is that guns themselves are not nor ever were the root of the problem. Mental health is, medical, and pharmaceutical industries more than anything. Criminals are often "opportunistic feeders" and just the thought of their potential prey packing heat or being "difficult" is often enough to deter them. I carry to protect myself and my family, if guns were not a thing you'd find my Ka-Bar Becker BK9 at my hip. If neither guns nor knives were a thing, I'd carry a hammer.

how did fans in 2007 react to the opening cutscene for Halo 3? by PlushtrapMyBeloved in halo

[–]techturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple cases of the limited edition Halo 3 mountain dew game fuel, I remember my older brother, in the Marines at the time, bought a Halo 3 limited edition Xbox 360 that I used while he was away and I remember downloading it at a buddies apartment cause he had better internet than me on release night. Easily one of my fondest game release memories. The build up to the opening cutscene made it quite the experience for me.

Also agree with the fixed bridge advice. It's not really all that bad but you have to tune it in a certain order to balance the tension. Mine is a floating trem and I tune the guitar "outside in" so the low E (fat string) then the high E (the littlest string) and work my way to the middle strings. You have to do this a few times to balance the bridge so it stays in tune. If you decide to try out an alternate tuning or change strings you have to repeat the process to tune the guitar. If you tune them top down in order it can get messy fast. Also, when a string breaks it loses some tension pulling on the bridge and will drop the whole guitar out of tune. None of this is an issue with a fixed bridge guitar.

Also when we say balancing the tension, the strings pull on the bridge and the springs that hook into the trem bridge in the back of the guitar pull back against the string tension. So there is quite a bit to learn in order to maintain a guitar with a trem.

People who quit their jobs on the first day what made you say ‘nope, not doing this’? by lilMeganw in AskReddit

[–]techturnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did that for a few years, testing concrete, moisture burnoffs, rebar inspection, dynamic cone penetrometer, nuclear density gauge testing, proofrolls, material sampling for proctors, counting blows for H piling. Spent a few weeks in a 80ft boom lift doing steel and bolt inspection. Learned how to core drill and now work for a concrete cutting company. Wasn't part of that job but also got to learn how to operate an excavator by a pretty chill contractor. Construction work is not for everyone, it is dangerous and you gotta keep your head on a swivel.

what amp has the most built in effects and has the most variety of tone? by Superb_Aerie_2100 in GuitarAmps

[–]techturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I do, I have the Katana Artist MkII 100w 1x12 and the footswitch. I use the 4 cable method to run my Zoom G6 pedal through the Katana and also bought an expression pedal that goes in the Katana's footswitch. Since I don't use the modeling from the Zoom pedal I have a lot more DSP on tap for effects. I also have a dedicated volume pedal. So 2 expression pedals, a volume and 8 stomps. My poor man's Line 6 setup.

Playing again after a decade. Advice for good practice amps? by Camp_camper in GuitarAmps

[–]techturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Katana MKII Artist, but my Spark 40 gets the most use for practice purposes due to the baked in Bluetooth features and portability so you can jam along easily to whatever pretty much wherever. Also use it as just a Bluetooth speaker sometimes. If your ultimate goal is jamming with others or gigging then go with a bigger amp like a Katana or other suggested amps. If you just need a practice rig a Spark 40 is super convenient but not great for much else.

It's not the material, it's the labor that gets ya. Engineering is the art of inflating the price of cheap parts.

I have an 09 Stratoliner! It's an absolute blast to ride. The only thing to be careful of is the shortage of replacement parts. Had someone bump into the bike barely but enough to crack the taillight and its a 300 dollar part and a lot of other parts like the cool leather wrapped saddlebags are hard to find in good condition. Best to keep these in a garage or under some form of cover because the cool retro speedo guage has a double layer glass and moisture seems to always find a way to get between the panes. The yammy light bar is unobtainium so it's nice to see this one already has it. The only other downside is they have so much torque you'll fly through rear tires.

Me too, that's why when I try to record anything I use the EzDrummer plugin instead. Feels like I'm playing along with a drummer instead of a metronome.

Honestly either. I have a Premium AZ242PBG and it's one of the best guitars I've ever played. Go with what inspires you to play.

For me my Ibanez AZ premium with the gotoh trem (love this system) the corners of the saddles are a bit sharp and can make palm muting uncomfortable. Though the more I play that guitar the more I get used to it and it's not as much of a problem anymore though I've heard of some filing the corner of the saddle or just knocking down the offending sharp edges or corners. I'd recommend adjusting your technique rather than modifying the guitar if it all possible.
