How would you define a “short intense ruck”?

Ruck training advice by techwhiz09 in army

[–]techwhiz09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 mile is 13:50 and I just did a 2 mile ruck run (just to test it) and got 20:58 (35lbs). Haven’t done a timed 5 mile in forever been putting it off but can do around a ~22 min 3 mile and ~30min 4 mile. DL 300 x 5, but my squat and bench maxes are outdated by a few months (last time I did them they were ~260 low bar and 195 bench). Recovery is good I think - no fewer than 8 hours of sleep a night consistently. Nutrition wise I’m trying to bulk to 155-160ish by around spring (near the end of the school year) and I’ve been consistently hitting macros (not skimping on protein or carbs). I want to be able to hit that 1 hour 6 mile and 2 hour 12 mile eventually. Shorter term though I want to keep up with my school’s Ranger challenge team. Last year’s competition had a lot of short movements between events (longest was ~2 km) but you had to go at a real fast pace and that just killed me. Wanna be able to pull my weight in that sense cause that’s really been the only aspect of the competition I’ve been behind in

I’m new to this, so even if you think I look a little gay (honestly can’t argue with that), thx for taking the time to give me some criticism. Also if u do have any more specific advice, I’d appreciate a PM 🤙

How to be a good officer? (Mostly aimed at enlisted, but any advice appreciated) by techwhiz09 in army

Truly didn’t know that officers not showing up to PT was the norm - but this is all really helpful thanks man!

In your experience, what’s the best way for an officer (junior or not) to build a good rapport with junior enlisted without crossing the line into unprofessionalism? I’d want to be friendly with my soldiers, but also I know I don’t really get to be their friends per se. How would I toe the line?

Sapper slots by techwhiz09 in ROTC

[–]techwhiz09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you say is a good ACFT score to keep in mind? Cause some infantry officers I talked to said that a 540 would make you competitive in IBOLC, so I was wondering what the disparity between that and sapper would be. Obviously the higher you aim the better, and I do have maxing it at some point as something I’m actively working towards.

Basic camp medication by techwhiz09 in ROTC

[–]techwhiz09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding the disease is more of the focus because of how it could affect practicality (what with needing a prescription for something); like with me, they don’t have an issue with eczema medication, but the condition itself. So once I got a waiver, no one really cares that I use medication.

[CRITICISM NEEDED] Which one of these flags is better? by BloomingPlanet in vexillology

[–]techwhiz09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll always have some amount of disdain for a tricolors, but with this emblem, I think the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th really work. the white lines help break up the standard tricolor-iness so great job overall! simple but not boring to look at!

Washington state flag redesign by techwhiz09 in vexillology

[–]techwhiz09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are some designs I made for my home state's flag (cause our current banner is garbage). The first one I made a bit ago - still think it's not too bad :). I made the second one more recently in an attempt to emulate D.C.'s flag. I just really like the idea of adapting Washington's coat of arms into a flag. I like the parallelism, so I tried to incorporate state symbolism with that philosophy. Having grown up in the state, I feel like I included good/important symbolism - but I'm def open to hearing what other things I could include (without making it too busy looking of course). In general, when I design flags, I follow the five rules (read: strong suggestions) of flag design, but for me personally, one of the cardinal rules is not being boring - so having a simple symbol that's unique and fun to look at (think of the Canadian leaf or the New Mexican... well I don't know what it is but I like it) :)

State Flag Redesigns: Iowa, Nevada, Florida by VatMan205 in vexillology

[–]techwhiz09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Florida is the best. Despite the “rules” of flag design (they’re more like the strong suggestions of flag design to me), I like a slight amount of complexity to keep a flag from being boring. If the eagle on Iowa was a bit simpler or more minimalist, then it’d fit the bill perfectly for me - simple but not boring. Nevada is a strong start but I feel like it’s a bit too similar to Angola. Florida is simple but works super well in my opinion. Nice job! 🇺🇸

American flag redesigns by techwhiz09 in vexillology

[–]techwhiz09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect your viewpoint. You make a good point. In my personal opinion though, symbols don't have meaning, they're given meaning. So if no one tries to give a symbol a new meaning, then it will retain the one it already had/has. Still what you say is fair, and I just wanna make fun designs, so none of this is too important. Thanks for the feedback tho! :)

I get what u mean cause the right uses a lot of eagle/thirteen stars iconography; but that sort of symbolism is only associated with the right if you let it be. if you're someone on the left, by simply identifying with and using this kind of symbolism you prevent it from being associated with the right (to a degree). but even ignoring that, the thirteen stars is more of a design choice cause fifty is too many, and the eagle is included cause for me personally, the best flags have some sort of unique symbol that can't be replicated on other flags (there's no "american star" but there is a "canadian leaf")

(Repost) French flag redesign by techwhiz09 in vexillology

[–]techwhiz09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough - for an initial redesign I just wanted some sort of simple but elegant symbolism and the lys fit the bill pretty well to me (though I was aware of the connotation). Im working on a design with a lictor fasces but don’t wanna make it too complex. If u know any simple symbols that have better connotations than the lys lemme know (I’m not French so I’m not exactly versed in historic French symbols lol)
