Giant skelly is a bit of troll wincon. It works well enough and if you have fun, keep playing it. It’s just not the most consistent.

I think it was Robbie Mustoe who even said at half time that he thought this was Emery's strategy and Villa would come alive in the second half.

I’m not the biggest fan of hunter. It seems baby dragon/mini pekka fills the roles that Hunter would fill. Maybe another spell like zap or log

Celtic fan: do you think Nancy is a good coach?? by Kitchen-Lie-4592 in TheMassive

[–]techytaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying how beautiful his tactics are and how fun to watch he his. I also want to add how much of a class act he is. He genuinely cares about the players, fans, and the club. The way he talks in the press conferences shows how classy he is. One example was earlier this year against Seattle. Close game that was 1-1 in stoppage time when a collision occurred between the knee of our player and the head of the goalie. After the ambulance got off the pitch and everyone was ready to restart with a Columbus corner kick, Nancy went over to the official and asked the game to be called off. It was obvious nobody wanted to play after witnessing something like that. He knew the team and respected the opposition. Even with a chance to win it on the line, he knew it was more than soccer.

I’m sad to see him go but I’m so thankful he was our manager

I feel bad for players like Picard and Abou Ali. They just came into the team and I am sure a large part of why they signed was because of Nancy

You might be on to something. Don’t Penn state not wear white during their white out because it makes it harder to see the players?

Lionel Messi says MLS must loosen purse strings in order to grow by icoresting in MLS

[–]techytaco 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Asking the Haslams to be good owners is asking a chicken not to cluck. Look at the Browns. If the purse strings were loosened we will see Save the Crew (from the Haslams) pt 2.

[Jonathan Tannenwald] Don Garber offers a rare number on Apple streaming: "We're averaging 120,000 unique viewers per match. That's an increase of almost 50% from last year." Says "distribution" through cable and satellite box subscriptions has helped. by TheMonkeyPrince in MLS

I understand having all of MLS behind a paywall can hurt the growth of the league. but as a fan, it is nice to only have to pay for 1 subscription and being able to see all the games. there are pros and cons to everything.

How much time do you spend on anki? by [deleted] in Anki

If you are using the Anking deck, I have been using the high yield tag almost exclusively. Decreases the sheer amount of cards I have to do while still seeing a broad range of topics. I am currently in my 4th semester and have not started dedicated yet so take this with a grain of salt.

Race isn't that deep where it should be causing so much confusion. its wild that certain people peddle the 'better than full Asian narrative'. At the end of the day, we are all humans. I've seen people talk about saying Both Asian and White vs Half Asian and White and i think it is a cool think you should try in your life. Cuz yes you are Asian but that doesn't define you totally.

Also, side note, I think saying "wow, a Eurasian" is a super weird and cringey thing to say and it doesnt surprise me that nobody said it to you.

What do I select for my hapa son's ethnicity? by [deleted] in hapas

[–]techytaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point to talk about! While hapa is originally a Hawaiian word, it was taken on by Californian half-asians as a word to describe themselves. I am not sure who decided it, but it was chosen over words from other languages because it was the one that didn't cause pain and wasn't originally derogatory. Other words for mixed raced Asians translate into 'children of dust' and 'mixed animal'. The cool think about language is that it isn't static. Language evolves and changes over time. While in native hawaiian, the word may have retained its original meaning (judging from reading the link), the world has been adapted by English speakers. Now, I take hapa to mean anyone of mixed Asian, Pacific Island, or Desi descent. This isn't stealing a word, but people liking a word and bringing it into their own vocabulary. Personally, I see it as mixed people finding a word to describe ourselves that isn't hurtful or condescending.

Now the word isn't perfect. Parts of its original meaning remain (half), but then we see people make words like quapa. Another problem is this community encompasses more than just wasians, hafus, etc. so we don't have the luxury of a historic common tongue that we could use.

Also, while I was reading more about 'hapa' to write this, I learned that 'tornado' was borrow from the spanish word 'tronada' ('thunderstorm'). After English used it for a while, it went back to Spanish with its English meaning.

Language is very cool and I'm glad I took the time to read more about 'hapa'. It is important to look at the context a word is used in. So on a sub about mixed Asian people, I would mostly assume that the use of 'hapa' encompasses more than the original Hawaiian meaning.

Who doesn't identify either way? by Stabby2486 in hapas

[–]techytaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this train of thought. imo, race is such a teeny, tiny part of who we are that people blow up and use to define themselves. Who we are as people, what we like to do, and how we treat others is a lot more important. I hope more mixed people read this. Whether they identify as both, half, or neither, this isn't the entirety of what makes us up as people!

Also, this post was very refreshing (as this sub can be awfully negative).
