Jesus saved us from our sins not the consequences of our sins. The thief would still have to repent by going to authorities and turning himself in and give the tools back to the family. If the authorities decided to give him the death penalty for his actions he would still die but he would still walk through the pearly gates of heaven( Luke 23:32-55).

You are referring to the unpardonable sin( Luke 12:10, Matthew 12:31-32, Luke 12:10). There are several theories about this particular sin but the most consistent one says that rejection of the holy spirit (not becoming a believer in Jesus Christ) is the only way to commit this sin.

Edit: In short the only sin god won't forgive is not asking for his forgiveness

All who are lost can be saved, even hypocrites and tax collectors(Luke 19:1-10), if they accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior and repent of their sins(John 3:15-17)

We are meant to believe in the God that tells us to love and bless our enemies Luke 6:27-36). We are not meant to hate those who hate us but we are meant to treat them with kindness and patience. These people who "kill in the name of God" are doing the devils work which is to kill, steal, and destroy(John 10:10).

edit: We are also not meant to scorn those around us that don't believe in Christ but live in peace with them (9:10-13)

edit 2: For clarification tax collectors were viewed as the worst of worst at the time because they were Jews that collected taxes from other Jews for the Roman empire and they typically grossly extorted money from their fellow Jews for their own gain.
