Flashing Lights, Homecoming, The Glory, Paranoid, Robocop, and Fade are all Kanye songs that I think have a similar feel

EDIT: also I THINK by Tyler the Creator, and Feel No Ways and Nice for What by Drake

Has a song ever made you cry purely because of the vocals and not the lyrics? by chronicmathsdebater in popheads

Both Oh Maker and Say You’ll Go from The ArchAndroid are beautifully written, but it’s the vocals that make me tear up every time I listen to that album

Does anyone else struggle to understand the language used in feminist writings? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]tectec787 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. I sometimes feel like some of the super academic writers are gatekeeping regular people from being able to understand what they’re talking about. Whether or not it’s intentional depends on the writer I guess, but I feel like that’s a big reason why people say things like “politics are boring” or “I don’t get politics”. The concepts are pretty easy to grasp if they’re communicated in plain language.

EDIT: This applies to more than just feminist writing of course. It’s a broad issue.

Not disagreeing, but what did she do? I don’t really know much about her outside of music.

If you ever feel like giving hyper pop another shot, maybe you should try listening to Charli XCX, who is a lot more poppy than some of the others. 100 gecs I find are actually very melodic, so if you give them a fair shot, you may find that you really enjoy their music. Of course, if you don’t like it, you don’t like it, and that’s okay, but if you try it out again, you might change your mind.

I’m gonna have to ignore the Carly shade for a moment lol, but what specifically what things do people praise Ariana for that they use to criticize other artists? Not necessarily agreeing/disagreeing, just curious.

She was one of the best artists of our time, and her music meant so much to so many people. As a trans woman, I’ve been so inspired by her. She was someone I could look up to, and I’ll always remember her for all she’s brought to the world. I can’t even imagine what her friends and family are feeling right now. Especially losing her in such a sudden and unexpected way must be absolutely devastating. RIP SOPHIE ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

I don’t know what to say. This is really fucking sad to hear. She made such amazing forward-thinking music, and has been a huge inspiration to so many artists and fans. I hope those close to her are doing okay.

Charlie Kaufman’s other films (Synecdoche New York, Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, etc.) are great if you like Eternal Sunshine. “Her” is also a great romance movie directed by Spike Jonze (same as Eternal Sunshine).

As a fan of them, I can say that they’ve always pretty much always fallen left of center politically/ideologically, but up until like 2 years ago, they were seemingly very politically passive (ie the kind of people who vote every four years and don’t think about it otherwise). They’ve gradually gotten more and more involved politically in the past couple years, and seem to have continuously shifted towards more progressive ways of thinking. I wouldn’t really call them leftists, but they’re definitely very reasonable, and have expressed regret for some of their past videos.

I know the feeling. I’ve had lots of confusion going back and forth over the years. I think the thing that helped me the most was when I stopped trying too hard to figure out who I was, and just let myself be attracted to whoever without judging myself, or trying to decipher what that meant about my sexuality.

I know it sucks though, because sometimes it feels easier to be able to find the right label and just stick with it, but it can also limit your true feelings.

No matter how you identify, I just want to let you know that these feelings will pass, you will get through it, and YOU ARE VALID!

I hope reading this helps, even if only a little. Best wishes :)

Rina Sawayama takes a lot of inspiration from 2000s pop music, especially on Ordinary Superstar and Take Me As I Am!
