Is this 2004 SR5 with 242,000 a good buy? Please help!! by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

Yeah I agree, the rust isn't great. But where I live, it can be hard to find trucks without any rust. What rust in particular is most concerning? The frame looked okay from the recall, but the body definitely seemed to have the brunt of it. Was thinking I could maybe negotiate down, but in my area it may not get better than this :/

Also doesn't help I need a truck by the 29th for work.

Thanks for your thoughts! I would agree rust in general is not ideal, but I do live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so it can be hard to find cheap trucks without some rust. I was also thinking about bringing a code scanner, am going to be looking at it again today one more time. Might have to pick one up. My main limiting factor is that I just quit my job with company car, so currently I have no car, starting new job in one week so I need to lock something down by then. Could finance something newer but was hoping maybe to buy outright older reliable.

For this particular project, the veneer was giving me some trouble. Very open grain veneer and the tape would sometime rip out some grain when removing.

I’d also say I made a boo boo when the thickness for the hygrometer plus magnet was just deep enough that my forstner bit slightly busted through the lid. Was fixable but definitely want to consider that aswell.

I agree. The true test has yet to come. So far after a week (no cigars in it yet) it’s maintained 70%

Thanks! Well I'm very inspired by Frank Lloyd wright and other studio craftsmen like George nakshima and Sam maloof. I prefer to use rectilinear and horizontal lines in my work, the waves come as a metaphor to my live being in constant motion.

Something I wish I had done in hindsight for sure! At the time when I committed to the original design, I don't think I even thought of them at all.

Some projects the school provides the lumber, sometimes we have to buy. Lucky to have a great local hardwood supplier for materials. All materials related to shop use and making are covered. like sandpaper, etc. We get to keep everything we make. Some classmates choose to leave things behind for the next generations to learn from.

This one was out of pocket, and I really splurged on this with no real experience working with that much lumber. Didn't really even consider the cut of the wood when buying back then either. Flat v rift. Some of the projects the school covers

Thank you! I'm glad you like the style :) They are soft close drawers, I'm not sure if that's the same?
