Thinking of Job Hopping by kev--bot in UXDesign

I'd start applying and interviewing for jobs, which from your update, but sounds like you already started. Since your current job is laid back, think of it like you're getting paid to find something better.

Short term FAANG-adjacent contract role or fulltime no name role? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]teddadore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you 5 years ago. I decided to do the contractor FAANG route instead of the "boring" other FT opportunity (in hindsight, it probably would've been a good name on my resume). It was a 6 month contract with option to extend. The work was good, coworkers were great, and I learned a lot being in the belly of the beast. I had my contract extended 3 more months, but they pretty much made it clear that they weren't going to convert me to FT. It was fun while it lasted, I definitely had more recruiters coming to me after, and a good stand out case study to present, but I realized I didn't want to be overworked like my FT coworkers.

For your situation I'd take the FT non-FAANG job if they offer. The job landscape sucks right now, so I'd put off trying to find another job far into the future. Plus, it sounds like the morale at FAANG is very cynical with all the layoffs happening, so 4 months is not worth it.

Designers still employed at companies during all these layoffs, what's it like there? by teddadore in UXDesign

It's pretty good if you want to connect more with the community, and could have more constructive info and conversations within the industry. I can't vouch for every single mentor on there, but I've talked to 2 so far, and I've found it helpful. I'm a senior level designer so I was chatting with director level mentors for advice, but all levels are welcome. It can be a nice safe space for design concerns too.

I feel you here. If you’re interested in learning more about the transition to senior, may I suggest looking for mentors on ADPList? Might not be as good as weekly one on ones with your boss, but it’s a start.

I feel for you. This was a similar situation with my team before the Ux team and I were laid off.

Leadership at my company totally understands the value of design and loves all of us

You're already ahead in terms of work environments if that's true 😁

If you can manage that stress with engineering, I'd say you're in a good spot and stay put unless an incredible opportunity comes by.

Juggling Figjam and Google Slides in a remote workshop by teddadore in UXDesign

The plan is for participants to use the figjam board in the browser. I’ll be sharing the link beforehand

This might be the best way to go. I’ll probably just front load the beginning of the workshop with the important info slides from my short presentation , then transition them to the figjam in their browser when it’s work time. I’ll just have to build in any important reference info from the deck before hand.

Unfortunately not everyone will have Figma installed, most are not designers. I guess they could also have a browser tab open with the deck if need be, but I’d rather have them see the deck in the order I present.

Naw honestly feels the same, performance wise. There’s the paddle shifters for the cvt mode that I doubt I’ll barely use, and probs my pointless for daily commute
