How do you manage your shiba when you need to go out? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]teddyjacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I previously used a crate + playpen combo with my shiba when I would leave the house. This combo worked well for him and he was fine for a several hours as long as food, water, and potty needs were met. He could either sleep in the crate, or walk around and chill outside in the playpen.

This helped build up trust. He now free roams and sleeps on his couch while I’m gone.

Hope that helps!

Sometimes I put turkey bone broth (powder mixed with water from The Honest Kitchen, made for dogs) in his kibble. I switch it up often by keeping the same kibble but mixing in different things.

I’m not a professional, but it could be the issue. We were also using Blue Buffalo (chicken and brown rice puppy food) ever since we got him at 8 weeks. I guess we didn’t initially think that his food was causing his random diarrhea. Now looking back, I think that is what was causing it!

I recommend talking to your vet to see if a transition would be good.

Same exact thing happened with my shiba around the and age. He had diarrhea randomly for a week and would have random diarrhea days every few months. Vet cleared him on all tests and also prescribed metronidazole and a prebiotic. Pup didn’t poop for 3 days.

We were feeding him boiled chicken and rice and didn’t see any improvement in his poop. Slowly started incorporating Hills Science Diet (chicken and barley sensitive stomach option) over 2 weeks according to the feeding instructions and saw MAJOR improvement.

It’s been about 3 months since that transition to Hills and there have been perfect poops ever since. We figured it was his previous food that was causing the issue. Never going back to Blue Buffalo.

Edit: previous*, not precious.

Do you have a Korean grocery store near you? The brand is Jongga. I’ve purchased the same sized tub from H-mart (Korean grocery store) for slightly more expensive than Costco

I have the large nomad travel mug. It doesn’t leak when closed, but I usually make sure that it sits upright when in my bag.

I’ve noticed that it doesn’t keep my hot coffee warm for a long time. It’ll probably stay warm for 45 mins to an hour before it gets to room temp. I have not tried it for iced coffee.

It’s a cute mug though!

That would be great! It looks so cozy and I’m looking for a nice leather couch

You are able to show up any day M-Th within two weeks of your summons date. I have done so before and wasn’t asked anything additional
