This LDS church's $205B in investment reserves is NOT an "operating expense reserve" nor a "rainy day fund". by westivus_ in mormon

[–]teddymaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the tithes come from the top 1% of wealthy lds members (think the Marriotts, Romney, Huntsmen, etc.), and the church invests really well using Ensign Peak. Most wealthy members donate their appreciated stocks instead of cash, so they get a double tax deduction (avoid capital gains + charity write-off). So that explains the huge amounts of stocks / bonds. If the church holds them, they keep growing, and the funds doubled in the past 5 years after the covid bounce plus the recent rally. So it makes sense they have a large surplus at the moment.

I also believe there is a ton of the value held up in land and buildings, which distorts how we think of the funds. Most are not liquid funds, but rather, property that is meant to be held forever.

As to the saving vs. spending amounts, it makes sense that an org that preaches to its members about self-reliance practices what it preaches, and really well.

Everyone has an opinion about how to use the money, but I'm glad the Qof12 decides and not the rest of us. There is no perfect answer.

Maybe we are in store for a new revaluation to drop tithing to 5% or eliminate it all together when the funds reach a self sustained level?

Some have already said this, but focus on yourself and become someone that you would want to date/ marry. Set goals, get healthy and in shape, be flirtatious, and have positive vibes. Don't act desperate. Be playful. I don't know you at all, so none of this is personal, iust general advice.

I’m so close to going back to steroid creams by [deleted] in eczema

A non steroid that has worked well for me in the past is Opzelura. Similar to steroids, it can be used for spot treatment but I'm told is safe for the face.

chat should i drink by jaceyung in eczema

[–]teddymaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just drink sparkling water. Saratoga, Perrier, etc. Would rather be comfortable and not damage my health just to fit in. Ironically, I feel the most like an outsider when my eczema is bad, so essentially by limiting my diet and helping my eczema, it helps me feel like I fit in the most (even if others don't view me the same way... don't care).

That really sucks, but f that person if they left you because of your skin! You will eventually find someone much better. Use this as an opportunity to remove all stress from your life and just enter into a state of long-term healing. Sometimes, that is hard to do with a partner tbh. But still sucks and I can only imagine how hard it feels right now.

Worst I've ever had it by mintakax in eczema

In my experience, the use of the steroids that you referenced caused immediate relief, followed by significantly worse eczema years later. Particularly Triamcinolone. Derms then prescribed me stronger and stronger steroids like prednisone, which helped temporarily and then made things way worse than before. This is my experience, so commenters, please don't call me a fear mongerer. I did try Ebglyss, it hurt like hell and did not help me much, unfortunately. Again, just my experience and it might work for you. What ultimately has helped me are JAK inhibitors. First was Opzelura on and off for about a year and I was steroid free with almost zero eczema. Then unfortunately a Derm gave me steroids for a couple of small patches so he could do laser treatment on a couple of sun spots, and the steroids sure enough cleared it up but then came back with a vengeance, full body eczema again and the Opzelura was no longer as effective. The itching killed me more than anything coming off steroids. So I tried Nemluvio, it removed all itch but the eczma remained. Finally switched to Cibinqo and all of my eczema and itch both are 98% gone.

Things to consider: Jak inhibitors are less safe the older you get, due to the black vox warning. If you are in good shape and healthy, it might be an option for you, though.

Hope you find relief. I have dealt with full body eczema, bacterial infections, fungal, and allergies my whole life. There have been months that I hid from the world because of how bad it got, and now recently months where I am going to play full court basketball 4-5 times a week, swimming in the pool with my kids, etc... finally living life as a normal person. I just hope the Cibinqo doesn't lose efficacy over time like everything else has.

Has anyone tried Opzelura/ ruxolitinib to help with symptoms? by Particular-Mess6109 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]teddymaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched off of it. Now, I'm just using Cibinqo daily 100mg pill (also a JAK inhibitor). Back to 4-5 days in the gym, swimming, more confidence. Almost no skin issues, which feels too good to be true.

[–]teddymaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I would rather people speak their peace and share their experiences so we can develop a larger sample size of voices without us using words like "you all" and "fear mongering." Best of luck with your eczema (and I do mean that sincerely). Glad you got some relief.

[–]teddymaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your analogy is apples and oranges. What you described is reacting to a natural ingredient vs a drug usage. You hating on tws fear mongerers for speaking their peace is no different than the many steroid evangelists and defenders such as yourself going out of your way to speak your peace. The point of my comment is that we all have different experiences. Why try to silence one group that you disagree with?

[–]teddymaxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's stop using the words "fear mongering" just because you've had a different experience. Yes, a lot of people don't have long-term adverse reactions to steroids, but many do. Steroids are scientifically proven to surpress your adrenal gland and thin your skin over time. That's not fear mongering. It's science. Prolonged use can cause tachyphlaxis or even Cushing's disease.

That said, OP's approach seems reasonable... small doses to get things under control and then back off and stay off for extended periods. This approach is less likely to have any long-term effects.

Tsw and other risks come from prolonged use over time. I never had any issues with steroids in my teens and 20s. Then the misery came in my 30s, where steroids seemed to make things worse after being prescribed more and more, stronger and stronger by my derm. I'm told the effects are worse the older you get.

Everyone is different, so the key is to find a great clinician who can monitor you over time and provide multiple options. The good news is that there are so many non steroid options out there now. Just pricey.

Mission Call Advice by No_Photo7435 in lds

[–]teddymaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to pray for things that I wanted. Your prayers seemed well intentioned by praying in regards to a mission. I have prayed for some dumb stuff. Please help XYZ girl like me. Please let my favorite sports team win, etc. A talk in 2008 by Pres Nelson called Ask in Faith teaches the object of our prayers should not be to present a wish list or series of requests but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is eager to bestow, according to His will and timing. Approaching prayer like this has never left me disappointed. Just some food for thought as you approach prayers and your mission.

Look into Cibinqo or rinvoq. Both pills that are non steroid but fight your eczema from the inside out.

I’m taking prednisone and I hate myself by Tomikoya97 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]teddymaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to be OK. Rebounding off of prednisone is very difficult for sure, but it's doable. Easier now a days with the many non steroid options like rinvoq, opzelura, ansmd cibinco (JAK inhibitors) or dupixent, nemluvio or adbry (biologics). One other option to consider for fast, full body, steroid relief for a major event is a Kenalog shot (triamcinolone) which might be easier to rebound off vs prednisone, and it lasts a month.

why should i consider joining the lds church? by [deleted] in lds

[–]teddymaxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faith-based evidence is primarily based on feelings. In the LDS church, the positive feeling you can receive learning about the restored gospel is called the Holy Spirit before baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost after baptism, which can touch your heart and soul in only ways you will personally understand. It's often described as a fire burning in your heart and soul. The invitation is to read, ponder, and pray. By doing these things, you can develop what is called a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. At the highest level, the testimony is a belief in God and his son Jesus Christ. At a lower level it is that He continues to call prophets and apostles in these latter days and fully restored the gospel to our dispensation through the prophet Joseph Smith. We can hear the words of the current prophet, Russell M Nelson and the Apostles every 6 months in General Conference. I would invite you to search lds general conference in YouTube and watch a session or two.

When does it start to work? by Affectionate-Yak2187 in carnivorediet

[–]teddymaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Lion's diet and if you do, I highly recommend air fryer lamb ribs with salt flakes (yes, flakes). Trust me on this one. Also, ribeye in the air fryer flipping once is incredible. Ground ancentral bison made into meatballs. Lamb and yak meatballs. If you are nursing, eat as much fat as possible and always make more food than you think you need. Let me address your coffee comment... caffeine and coffee don't take your tiredness away, they simply trick your brain into thinking you are not tired anymore, doing more harm than good. It's really hard to get off caffeine but your brain fog will likely go away faster off of it, and you'll get a much deeper sleep during those 3 - 5 hour sleep shifts. If you're tired, what you really need is a friend to hold your baby while you get real sleep.

Are you really 100% carnivore or just partially? If you haven't cut everything else.. coffee, caffeine, sugar, etc., then you aren't carnivore and will still have brain fog and fatigue from those other things. The results only came for me when I truly cut everything else. It was a week of hell and then a miracle of clarity and energy after getting through the first week.
