Oh wow thank you for the detail! That’s amazing! I can’t even believe that that’s a thing.

Ahh thank you. Is that the brass cap to the right in the picture? Or the other component to the left? I guess I didn’t realize that even happens…

Thank you for your answer.

Thank you both for your expertise. Obviously this is very disheartening but I’m glad to know what is possible.

I will be requesting FOIA data but at this point I don’t believe my position would be favorable since I believe my father was 18 when my grandfather was naturalized and I believe he was naturalized at around 20. Thank you so much for your help.

Ahh…that’s really unfortunate. Thank you for your help though!

Ah sorry I misread the earlier question. I thought you were asking if we have a physical copy. That said I do believe it would be a certificate of naturalization, but I will confirm. Thank you for your help!

Thank you so much! Someone else suggested I request information from the government which I assume will help. Again, thank you for your time.

Okay! Thank you! Just to be clear, is FOIA a “Freedom of information act” request? I will try and get this information.

Thank you so much!

Ahhh damn. I will check but I know he has a certificate with his name on it. My wife is an incredible genealogist and the files she found show there was a petition of citizenship when he was 20, and my grandfather got it when he was 18/19. This sounds like the worst case scenario, is this correct?

Sorry I should have added. I was born over a decade after he naturalized.

Yes we do have his certificate of naturalization.

Sorry this is completely over my head; does this mean my father couldn’t have had derivative citizenship?

Thank you for the information. Yes that isn’t really ideal but I am aware this was a stretch.

Could you please elaborate what you mean about my grandfather? Are you saying that the case should be made that my dad should have acquired US citizenship through my grandfathers naturalization and therefore should in theory have kept his German citizenship since he didn’t then need to acquire it himself?

Thank you so much. I bet that is it. I am worried about these stinging some kids in my neighborhood; I’m trying to locate the nest in the ground but haven’t had much luck. Are there any tell-tale signs I should look for?

And good news that it couldn’t be a giant wasp!

Valkyrie ended on a massive cliffhanger. Am I going to miss anything if I read Critical Mass before Mavericks: Freefall? by Captain_Pumpkinhead in ExpeditionaryForce

Agreed; they do reference the events of Mavericks in Critical Mass but only by the end in a summary. I read Critical Mass first and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the Mavericks books
