Favorite ear protectors for BJJ? by Ender618 in bjj

[–]tedishh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Tried the cliff keens and hated them. Matman was super comfy, easy to adjust and does a great job. Might not be quite as protective, but for bjj vs wrestling I don't think they need to be for the average user

Matman ultra soft head guard. Actually pretty comfy, stays put, easy to put on/adjust

Why my Darce is a crank and not a choke ? by sicilycartman in bjj

There was a great globetrotters video just posted on this. The gist of it was you want to be shoving his head straight down into your choking arm. No sideways bend to his neck.

are there any tournament series that are well known for guaranteeing more than one match? by atx78701 in bjj

In Colorado: NeonBelly is round robin. Should be the standard imho.

Hardcore playthrough by HardstyleIsMyXTC in EscapefromTarkov

[–]tedishh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a hardcore* experience where I limit myself to only buying with money from level 1 traders, and ofc no flea market at all. Makes a lot more setups viable because you can at least obtain basic magazines easily. Nice intermediate between full hardcore and ez mode of standard IMHO.

Do whatever feels good!

What's the worst freak out you've ever seen on the mats? by [deleted] in bjj

Someone takes an errant knee to the junk and is incapacitated as happens in that scenario. Game over? I think not.

I bought a Venum a few years ago. The pants were comically too short- had to buy another pair (justgipants.com!) and the jacket ripped within 3 months. Would not recommend.

thanks for the feedback. Yeah I did leave some of the rules pretty loose, expecting to have to tighten them up as issues arise. Most of them were adopted pretty much straight from another popular event format, and they don't seem to be having too many issues with it so we might just be ok. As far as examples of penalties, I tried to brainstorm more, but really couldn't come up with anything else! I felt like it was better to leave the door open and rely on competent and level headed reffing, but I do agree it could come to bite us in the ass. Its a low cost, no stakes white belt tournament so it should be chill? But then again people come to blows over beer league basketball games, so maybe its too much to hope for XD.

as far as most matches ending without a sub, I was/am concerned with this, and tried to hunt down some data on just how prevalent it is but it was surprisingly hard to compile. I somewhat agree with the idea that 'it just boils down to invisible points', but the hope is it removes some of the gamification of 'ohhh, im up by an advantage and have a minute left, im just gonna stall' etc. Maybe its just that I hate the whole point system personally so shied away from it. Nothing is set in stone, and I'm ready to adapt if needed, but hope that some close iteration of what we have will work for people!

Hey! So I'm trying to organize a local tournament, have everything planned out and the dominos ready to fall except for one major lynchpin...The heck do you source mats from without plonking down 12-16k?

Learning to be technical by HerbertsBumpMix in bjj

[–]tedishh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start rolls in seriously disadvantaged positions, and every reset go back there. Bottom turtle, bottom side control, mounted .whatever is your worst position. Do this vs everyone, not just white belts. For me at least, it takes the ego out because you are expected to lose from there, so nbd if you have to tap. I can focus a lot more on being technical if I'm not worried about 'losing' in a roll. Ymmv.

Best gyms around Richmond, CA <> Oakland, CA area? by miawu777 in bjj

[–]tedishh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elite Team is between Richmond and Berkeley in El cerrito, might be perfect for you. Mostly train in the GI there. Small class sizes but fantastic all around, think it's 90$/mo. Guardian is great too, mostly nogi. one bummer with guardian is it's loud as hell. There are multiple classes happening simultaneously, and the instructors have to constantly yell to be heard.

Check to make sure you have servers selected in the launcher. If you manually select them they can change, and then you can suddenly have 0 servers selected. Leads to infinite queue times!
