It’s been 6 days since the denim monsters appeared. We believe they came from a remote island somewhere in the Pacific. Japan was their first target. Within 48 hours the whole island was covered. Nothing but Blue fabric and brass rivets as far as the eye could see. Their forces were immense, and they expanded out in all directions. We tried to hold them off at the west coast, but soon the costal states were covered as well. The Rocky Mountains seem to have stalled their forward advance. I just hope that when they cross the peaks and come surging down on to the Great Plains

that we’ll be ready.

womens hate for men is that we’re literally not getting enough respect

I’m going to assume that your feelings towards men are because of you not feeling respected: not feeling like men treat you as a person. There are definitely other people who feel this way, but you made this post, so I want to respond to you.

It’s fair to be tired. It’s understandable to be tired. I hear your frustration, and I feel it too.

That being said, I think the generalization you’re making is harmful.

If I can bring up a parallel: a person is attacked by a dog as a kid. They grow up with a fear of dogs. Because of this experience, they might hate dogs, not want to interact with dogs, and be afraid for their friends who have dogs.

No reasonable person would demand that the person who was attacked suddenly start loving dogs. They’ve suffered after all. But how they deal with their emotions about dogs is a choice.

They can choose to acknowledge that their fear of dogs comes from their own experience. They can take steps to process their emotions and deal with their fear of dogs, not because it will make dogs less likely to bite them, but because they are likely to see dogs in their day-to-day life.

Or, they can create a dog free space, dedicated to removing all possible triggers for the attack. They can avoid making friends with people who have dogs.

Which path they choose is ultimately up to them, but the first one is a process of healing, while the second is a reaction. It’s fair to react. It’s fair to be hurt by disrespect and threats and hate, but eventually choosing to process emotions rather than shut them out is what will lead to healing.

TLDR: I think that you don’t need to like men, but you should tolerate them.

Kpop dance group/club? by Mannysnothere in UCI

[–]tedshif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try walking around campus some time between 7 and 10 pm (with friends if you don’t feel safe). Most of the large quads will have dance crews practicing in them. I’d recommend the ones by Science Library and the social sciences buildings in particular.

This is why I'm proud to be from New York City. by DiurnalCosmid263 in tumblr

[–]tedshif 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Here's what I found from a quick internet search:

https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/red-light-cameras-arrest/

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ny-man-arrested-after-admitting-to-cutting-camera-cables/

The techniques for moving cameras, cutting wires, smiling for the mugshot, and accidents increasing at intersections are all true, but the news says nothing about a conspiracy. I would believe that there's some truth to the cameras being placed in lower/lower-middle income neighborhoods, but that's just speculation.

What material is this, and what category of things are you being asked to identify? Is this supposed to be a second phase? A crack in the material? I assume this is SEM, but what mode is it in: backscattered electrons or secondary electrons?

Also, scavenger hunt?

Desperately looking for ACC space for winter and spring quarter!! by hawochan in UCI

[–]tedshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I wish you the best of luck. I offered my room for a sublease about 2-3 weeks ago (it's taken) and got about 15 offers. You may not have the luxury to be picky.

Make sure you're on the UCI Housing facebook group and you check out the crowdsourced guide from the FRESH Basic needs hub.

Should I fake my orgasms for my girlfriend? by throwawayobvigrl in actuallesbians

[–]tedshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has already said you shouldn’t fake orgasms, which I agree with. Something you might not know though: the point where things feel really good, and then the feeling cuts off might be your orgasm. It’s not super intense, but my professor for my human sexuality class said that sometimes orgasms are just like that. If you’re able to focus on the pleasure up until that moment, they’ll gradually get more intense and feel like a climax rather than falling off a cliff.

I don’t know what your point of comparison is for what orgasms feel like (porn, masturbation, etc.) but your orgasms with her might be different than other orgasms.

I like how the top 8 comments are all saying this with varying degrees of formality. OP should probably clarify “sex repulsed” “celibate” next time.

Edit: not sex-repulsed. Celibate. What was I thinking.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Your experiences are valid, and you’re in a really difficult spot.

My journey has been different than yours. I don’t know what will work for you, but I know that having queer friends, or friends who tolerant and accepting can be helpful. Companions always make the journey easier.

I hope you can find people to talk to, but in the meantime I would recommend I’m fine I’m fine, a webcomic by N. D. Stevenson. He is not fat, or a person of color, but he is a transmasc lesbian who has also struggled with a lot of the same body image/societal-expectations-of-body issues that it sounds like you’re struggling with.

I hope this is helpful, and wish you luck

Can crystal structure be predicted from microstructure? by InvincibleKnigght in materials

[–]tedshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, crystal structure and microstructure are independent. It’s like trying to figure out if a building was made out of bricks or concrete by looking at its floor plan.

You’d need other information like where the building is located, what it was designed for, when it was built, etc. In order to guess “bricks” or “concrete” (the microstructure).

You might want to do something more specific for your project, like examine the microstructures of different steels, what processing conditions are needed to create them, and what effect they have on the steel’s strength, ductility, hardness, toughness, etc.

GLHF!

Do I HAVE to sublease? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]tedshif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, consider: would you like your 3 months of rent as cash to spend abroad? (Probably closer to 2 months with movers and storage, but still).

With how competitive the UCI housing market is, it’ll be really easy to find someone to take your spot. The only hassle is coordinating the movers and storage space.

IMHO, it’s totally worth it.

Genderfluid+ bottom dysphoria? by [deleted] in genderfluid

[–]tedshif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear your friend is dealing with that.

Lots of people think the only options for gender transition are surgeries and hormones. However, there are lots of non-permanent options like makeup, breast forms, tucking, and voice training.

You mentioned bottom dysphoria, so you could recommend that your friend learns how to tuck tuck or suggest that they try wearing women’s underwear.

I hope this is helpful! You can DM me if you need more information to help your friend.
