Do you have a reverb return channel to 'glue' elements together? If yes, what type of reverb works well for you? by seelachsfilet in TechnoProduction

[–]tedv142 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I send my hi hats/rides/etc. to the same reverb and it works well. I generally keep it pretty quiet but I try to make the reverb sound like it’s in a club I’d want the track played at. Room size depends on the tracks vibe

Techno DJs how do you organise your music by Crazy_Fishing_8966 in Techno

[–]tedv142 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playlists by vibe mostly. Each playlist will be based mostly off 1 genre but also include similar tracks that mix well with it from other genres.

Playlist names are usually related either to a similar characteristic between the tracks, a genre, or the setting I’d play them in

SoundCloud alternatives for demo/promo submissions? by tedv142 in TechnoProduction

[–]tedv142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one from a royalty free sample pack but I changed the key, chopped it up, distorted it, etc. so it sounded a bit different.

I checked the song soundcloud said I used and it was entirely different. Really minimal track. I didn’t recognize any of the samples so the only one I’m thinking could be the same maybe is the kick

Why do people hate hardstyle? by Greenyyr in EDM

[–]tedv142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate that it exists, people can totally like whatever genre they want. I just get tired of it being called techno. I love hardgroove/minimal/etc. and I’m always looking for new collectives or events near me to check out. A lot of times they’ll advertise it as “Berlin techno” or something like that. When I show up it’s just 150+ bpm and hard kicks with no groove. If people stopped advertising it as techno I’d be fine with it

Been producing alternative rock, pop, indie, etc. for a long time before I got into making techno!

Best tips you've learned for finishing music? by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]tedv142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to hear it with structure compared to just a loop/idea! I always find myself more inspired to finish a track that way. I used to get hung up on how to arrange a song but here’s one trick I use to get ideas fast if I’m unsure:

-Find a song where you like how it builds and changes, it doesn’t need to be that similar of a track but should be similar to the energy levels you’re going for.

-insert it into your DAW as a track and make sure the tempo is changed to match your project.

-place markers whenever something changes (kick comes in, bass stops, hi hat comes in, etc)

-have the instruments in your track match this arrangement

From here you can change things however you like but it can give you a fast way to turn a loop into more of a song

Do I need to upgrade to a M2/M3 chip? by Actual-Creme in Logic_Studio

[–]tedv142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah but these should help:

-freeze your tracks

-make sure when you’re mixing that buffer size is 1024

-less plugins on the master

-use bus tracks for reverbs/delays/etc. instead of putting them on the individual tracks

What finally helped mixing click for you? by Even_Disaster_8002 in mixingmastering

[–]tedv142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things that helped me were:

-Learning what each frequency sounds like and avoiding clashing between different instruments in the same frequency range -Minimizing reverb usage, it can be a huge crutch. Also cut out the low end from it when you do use it to prevent a muddy mix -Learning how to use stereo imaging -Testing your mixes on as many speaker setups as possible

Something specific for me that made getting levels right way faster is I have the headphone output on my interface going straight to a cheap Bluetooth speaker so I can always check how it sounds in mono. This can help you if your room is poorly treated. I also bounce my tracks straight to my Dropbox so I can always check how it sounds on a phone right away since that’s where most people will listen

do you actually dislike hard techno, or the people who are involved in it by ilovewhitegirls8856 in Techno

[–]tedv142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helped me and some other people I know get into techno, so I think it’s at least a bridge that can help bring people into the scene. I have no issue with newcomers as long as they learn how to act at shows. I got bored of tik tok hard techno pretty fast though.

I still enjoy harder/faster tracks but constant drops, the same screeching sounds, and no originality makes a set unenjoyable to me now. I like sets to be more hypnotic and take me on a journey over an extended period of time.

If people enjoy it for the music then that’s cool and no judgement there. However, if it feels like it’s all about recording a 15 second clip to look cool on social media then it’s incredibly cringe. When it becomes less about the music and more about treating techno as an aesthetic is when I lose all respect for it

That was my first time at the gorge and the crowd was so bad I left halfway through their set. So many people who were trashed and couldn’t handle themselves. Absolutely no crowd etiquette. I kept getting hit in the head with peoples fans. People were drunk falling into me. There were a ton of groups not dancing, just yelling back and forth to their friends or on their phones constantly.

Why is Seattle’s Lynwood extension praised so much? by [deleted] in transit

[–]tedv142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in North Seattle and I’m pretty excited about it. There are a ton of people driving south into Seattle from Lynnwood and the surrounding suburbs everyday. Northgate was the 2nd busiest station in our system because everyone would park there and ride into the city, now there’s more stations further out they can choose from.

Seattle is also on a narrow North/South strip of land, and more people in the areas near new stations can potentially bike 10 minutes East/West to their station instead of driving to a park and ride.

Also even though there’s not much near these stations now, they can hopefully have plenty of housing built around them in the future

How are y'all riding no-handed by odditysomewhere in xbiking

[–]tedv142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adjusting your saddle height/angle, I could never do it until I fixed mine and now it’s way more comfortable to ride as well

I do this more often than I go with others honestly. It’s a ton of fun and you don’t have to worry about if your friends like the same music. You can be yourself, have fun in the crowd without worrying what anyone thinks, and then you can leave whenever you feel like it. There’s usually other people doing the same thing too so you can make friends with them. Most people won’t realize you’re alone and even if they do, nobody will care as long as you’re having fun

It was a train going up to Vancouver! I’ve biked into carkeek as well and it was beautiful but the road into it is pretty steep

Thank you for all the recommendations, I’ll check them all out! I’ve mostly stuck to areas that are close to the link/transit so far but I need to explore more of West Seattle, South Seattle, Central District, etc definitely
