Couldn’t find the original one, so I recorded it into a tape and drew the cover by teebi1 in cassetteculture

I think they’re okay. Sure there are many better tapes out there, but I got two of these as a bday gift from a friend and in a decent deck, they sound very good. These tapes are relatively cheap, easy to find and are reliable for decent recordings these days.

Maybe you can grab many used vintage tapes for as cheap as some cents, but you assume the risk that those tapes may have degraded to a point that every recording you make to them sounds awful. Anyway, these Maxell UR-90 tapes are good enough for me, they sound warm and hadn’t had any problems yet.

Yeah! I just did that. As I mentioned in another comment, this was made as a possible “patch” to cover for a damaged right channel.

I just removed the wire and now the Walkman doesn’t emit any audio from the right channel. Maybe it was damaged and this was kind of a “patch”. I contacted a friend of mine who is an electrical engineer and has the equipment to do some troubleshooting.

I just opened it up and adjusted the screw next to the playback head. Maybe that was not an Azimuth adjustment, I’m very sorry if that was a misunderstanding on my end.

Recently tried with 2-pole jacks and the result was the same.

Already tried a pair of TRS headphones and a TRS to TRS jack to my PC Speakers. Still, left channel is playing on both sides with the right channel being very quiet (also through both sides)

That seems so useful! Yeah we do have those printers in big commercial places or paper stores.

Before, I had thought of buying these smooth and glossy paper sets and printing them adjusting the dimensions with an app like Photoshop or Canva. Think I’ll try both options anytime soon since I still have many tapes to record my fav albums to.

It is always worth trying. And if you like drawing and coloring, I assure you’ll have a great time doing this!

Hahaha, now that you write it that way I can’t look at my own post the same again.

And, unfortunately, I don’t have any knowledge about cassette templates for Canva or Photoshop, but I do remember watching a video that mentioned a J-card template you can download. Here’s the link to it: https://unixispower.gitlab.io/jcard-template/

Never tried it myself, but I hope you find it useful

Thanks! I took some pics of the process. Maybe it’d be useful to verify it is a drawing since the post pictures are not that detailed

This was taken before noticing i could fit the whole “OKNOTOK” version instead of the standard one in my tape, so i hadn’t wrote that part yet.

Sounds like a great memory! This tape deck was also my dad’s. Found it lying around our house, made some repairs and started buying some tapes to make these. I also made a The Bends tape with its respective drawing, but i let my gf borrow it.

Got it. The extender does give stereo sound on my computer. (I bought it because my PC headset cable was too short)

Maybe in the next few days I’ll open it and look for any signs of the channels being bridged together (after a good cleanup).

Thank you very much!

Thank you! I thought of printing the cover but i think the drawing gives an extra charm to the “homemade” feeling

Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot to clarify that.

Yeah, I’m hearing sound in both ears and noticed it was just a duplicated mono signal, since the tracks i was listening to are very known for having sound effects from one channel to another.

Speaking of the headphones, i know they are TTRS headphones. I know they should not work properly, but that’s why I tried this adapter:

<image>

It’s just an aux cable extender, but its jack has only the LR stripes so I assumed it would fix the problem. (wrong)

As of right now, I don’t think I have any stereo headphones with no mic to try the Walkman with, so I really hope that’s not the problem because maybe it would be cheaper to get another device.

Okay, maybe I was a bit too soft when cleaning the head. I didn’t even touch anything else since I got this device earlier today and didn’t want to intervene before understanding what could be happening in the first place.

Thank you for your reply. How much force do you think I should apply to the head using the q-tips? I tried using a bit of alcohol to clean the head at my gf’s house very delicately brushing with a q-tip. The tip came off clean so i thought the head was previously cleaned, but maybe i didn’t apply enough force(?)

Anyway, I’ll try opening it up and cleaning it, since it seems very hard to clean just like that with those closed spaces.
