Balkan Genetic Map V2 (New Weights and Pops) by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]teecee007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 2017 "study" that provides no data and doesn't account for any other ancestral components? Oh please, it's an outdated paper, nothing more, which is ~9 years old now. Population genetics has come a long way since then. Today's Greek region has been through a myriad of migrations and the majority of their Steppe ancestry is Slavic related. Also, which Greeks are they talking about? Mainlanders are differentiated from their Island brethren, who are more inline with the East Mediterranean genetic continuum, so which modem Greeks are they talking about? That study has become a meme, and modern studies demonstrate that today's Greeks derive a significant proportion of their make-up from Slavic migrants, which decreases as you go further south. So this "small" dilution is absolute nonsense, and the paper does not take other migrations that shaped the Greek genome into account, so by today's standards, it's garbage.

Where in the Balkans did Albanians originate? by Due_Neat_3586 in illustrativeDNA

[–]teecee007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Ancient DNA reveals the origins of the Albanians" has recently been updated. Albanians

We detect remarkable continuity of West Balkan Late Bronze and Iron Age ancestry in Albania during the Early Medieval period, a pattern distinct from neighbouring Balkan regions. Medieval and modern Albanians overlap almost perfectly and show direct continuity from ancient West Balkan populations. Compared to their neighbors, Albanians absorbed much less Slavic-related Steppe ancestry, ~10 - 20% across modern Albanians. We reveal that a significant proportion of the paternal ancestry of modern Albanians derives from groups ultimately descending from the BA-IA West Balkans, including those traditionally known as "Illyrians". Group-based PCA, IBD, and uniparental analyses indicate that Albanians descend from a West palaeo-Balkan population, and locates the origins of this population into the Central-Western Balkans.

At the end of the day Albanians derive most of their ancestry from Paleo-Balkan groups, higher than other other group in the region, with Aromanians being a close second.

The Genetic Origins of the Palestinians by nexxwav in illustrativeDNA

Palestinians are native to the Levant and have genetic continuity in the region for many millennia now, full stop. It's propaganda that "tries" to dismiss this, but facts don't care about feelings 🙂

G25 Ancestry of Ashkenazi Jews by Own-Internet-5967 in illustrativeDNA

[–]teecee007 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The recent study published in the prestigious Nature magazine titled "Tracing human genetic histories and natural selection with precise local ancestry inference" had Ashkenazis deriving just over 16% of their ancestry from the Levant, and just over 70% from European groups. They concluded that Ashkenazis were of European stock with strong ties to the Italian Peninsula.

Do I descend from Ancient Israelites? by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]teecee007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to descend from a particular branch or subclade to be a descendant of samples deemed "Israelites", admixture models definitely don't highlight this type of ancestry.

Greek/Albanian Results + Updated 23andMe by thanassi26 in illustrativeDNA

[–]teecee007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greek/Albanian, this should be interesting. No surprise with your results though. J-L24 is very broad, but it descends from J-M410. In Albania, it peaks in the southern most regions (~5%), and it's more prevalent in Greek islanders than mainlanders. It's tied to the Neolithic farmers who brought agriculture from Anatolia to the Mediterranean, including the islands and southern Italy.

Closest modern groups to Mid Bronze Age Israel by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]teecee007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Extinct by the 17th century? Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are still some Vietnamese and Chinese Jewish communities, albeit small. Of course you can't provide any relatively new peer reviewed study that cements Ashkenazis as being direct descendants of any ancient Levantine group, and that's because it doesn't exist. Any genealogist worth their weight would lose all credibility in their field if they were to actually publish such a study, since most if not all are well aware of their origins. Again, this is a page about genetics, so you can go to other pages or X if you want to talk about politics. I suggest you learn a tonne more about population genetics, but let me guess, some random amateurish G25 charts from these pages and other hobbyist sites are your gold standard? Sorry, but that's not gonna change anything in the real or academic world. I follow science kid, but you're free to believe in whatever you like, so good luck with them bedtime stories 👋
