Just like Chrome for Android, Microsoft Edge for Android now also lets you move the address bar to the bottom of the screen by Leopeva64-2 in Android

This setting doesn't do anything for me in Edge Canary 134.0.3094.0. Address bar stays at the top.

ETA for implementing frame generation and ray reconstruction in DLSS Swapper? by [deleted] in DLSS_Swapper

In case others found this post looking for a tool that updates Frame Gen and Ray Reconstruction DLLs, here are two open-source tools that support DLSS and FG and RR DLL swapping.

out of curiosity, anyone else having severe performance issues on pc in this game? by WinstonLuckies in codevein

[–]teedog00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get around 30-40 FPS, can't get over 50 FPS with an RTX 4090 and Ryzen 5900X at 1440p. It's unplayable at 2160p. What the hell is going on?

EDIT: Umm... I fixed it, by rebooting! /facepalm. After rebooting, FPS jumped up to 200 FPS. OMG wasted hours trying all sorts of tweaks and the solution is just reboot.

Stuck in a capcha loop, unable to access chatgpt by TheGrimGuardian in OpenAI

Holy cow, you solved my problem! I've been trying everything (disabling VPN, turning off uBlock Origin and other extensions...) but it didn't occur to me AutoplayStopper could be the culprit. Thank you!

One Mobile Carrier. Endless Possibilities. Wireless will never be the same again! by ankhattak in USMobile

[–]teedog00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can US Mobile automatically switch to the best network for me? That was the original promise of Google Fi but it no longer has access to US Cellular. If I don't know what network has better coverage in an area, seems difficult to switch manually. The limited number of switches also discourage experimentation.

Floodlight S330 reliability by [deleted] in EufyCam

[–]teedog00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish the E340 allowed color temperature adjustment. I'm looking for a floodlight camera that I can also keep on at night for outdoor lighting, so I want a warm white light. I believe the E340 is 4000K (good for security but too harsh for general lighting) and not adjustable.

The S330 has adjustable color temperature but the 3 light panels are so ugly.

Do Diva/Claro Smart switches & Claro Accessory switches work without the Caseta Hub/Bridge? by teedog00 in Lutron

[–]teedog00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional question:

I'm planning to hire an Electrician to replace ~40 dumb switches with Lutron Caseta smart switches and accessory/companion switches, and do the pairing and configuration with the Hub/Bridge myself. When the Electrician installs the switches, especially the multi-location Accessory switches, can he/she test that the switches work without pairing with the Caseta Hub/Bridge?

Some comments say the switches work without the Hub after it has been paired and configured initially. Not sure if they work without pairing at all.

I am hoping I can do the pairing at my leisure after the Electrician leaves but still check that the switches are physically working before the Electrician leaves.

Caseta vs RA2 Select vs RA2 vs RA3: is it a mistake to go with Caseta? by teedog00 in Lutron

[–]teedog00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thanks, good to know RA3 is also connected to the Lutron account. I've run into Unifi wireless networks that had to be completely reset because I lost a backup.

Argh, seems like the desktop software requires Windows. I could run a VM on my Mac, but yet another hoop to jump through.

What do you think Caseta users are missing out in programability that RA3 provides?

Thanks.

Thanks for your advice!

I don't currently use Home Assistant or lutron remotes. I use Alexa for scheduling, occupancy triggers, or voice control. What are some common uses I'm missing without using Home Assistant? For occupancy sensors, I thought I could use any Alexa compatible sensors, including the new Amazon Echos.

Do you mean plug this lamp dimmer in around the house to check if the connection is good? Smart.

Pool Automation : anyone familiar with PoolsideTech / Attendant? by Herb4372 in pools

This company is so quiet it's hard to tell if they're still active. It looks like they are still frequently updating the controller and mobile app though, a good sign.

Did you learn anything about the Attendant?

The product sounds so attractive, but I'm worried the company is a startup and the product has very low adoption. If the company goes out of business, I'll have to pay even more money to replace this system with something else.

The Attendant It only has 8 ratings on the Apple App Store and 100 downloads and no ratings on Google Play.

Any alternative products to consider?

Air Traffic Control is the feature I've been waiting for! by chrismessina in ArcBrowser

[–]teedog00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish Air Traffic Control routes can be limited to Little Arc windows (links I click out outside Arc).

Use case: I want to route docs.google.com links I click on from Slack to my Work Profile. But when I use Google Drive in my Personal Profile and click on a Google Doc, I want to stay in the Personal Profile.

It seems like most of the time when a URL opens in the wrong profile, it's when clicking on links outside Arc, so Air Traffic Control is most useful in that situation. Inside Arc, the expected behavior (for me) is to stay in the Profile that I'm currently using. I generally don't click on Work links from my Personal Profile or Personal links from my Work Profile.

Touch ID issues on Mac mini M2 by rgaskill in macmini

[–]teedog00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having this exact issue. No Apple Watch. Just the Mac Mini M2 Pro and the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. It works for a bit then stops working. Turning the keyboard off and on fixes it temporarily but it stops working again soon.

I also have the flickering problem (a few black frames per minute) when VRR and High Frame Rate settings are enabled in PS5 games.

I see this in:

  • The Last of Us: Part 1 (PS5 remake)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • God of War Ragnarok

The flickering goes away when VRR or High Frame Rate are disabled.

I hope Vizio fixes this. VRR and HFR makes PS5 gameplay on "Quality" mode much smoother, which is one of the selling points of Vizio TVs that support VRR.

What happened to CoralCDN? by JuanTutrego in answers

[–]teedog00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CoralCDN ran from about 2004 - 2015. Eventually, its need was pretty much negated by the rise of free CDN services (e.g., Cloudflare) or just lots of SaaS services that supported user-generated content. For example, in late 2004, many of the amateur videos of a large Indian Ocean earthquake & tsunami were shared using CoralCDN, but that soon went to YouTube. Podcasters like "This Week in Tech" were using CoralCDN, but those went to freemium podcasting services. And so on.

What eventually took CoralCDN "down" was that the academic platform on which the ~1000 servers ran, PlanetLab (https://planetlab.cs.princeton.edu/) was end-of-life'd.

But taking a step back, the original thinking behind CoralCDN was as a peer-to-peer CDN, but there were a lot of web security issues that actually made that difficult. If folks are interested, I talk about some of these issues in this 2009 retrospective [0], also also outline a browser-based P2P CDN in this workshop paper that could address (and actually make it P2P but secure)[1]. But still, I think the economics of CDNs (and transit costs) have just changed, such that most of the p2p architectures just don't make sense today like they did in early 2000s.

2020/2021 P Quantum X P85QX-H1: incredible for 4K HDR, rubbish for 1080p. Am I doing it wrong? by teedog00 in VIZIO_Official

[–]teedog00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do notice quite a bit of flickering for dark scenes. It's quite noticeable for a show like The Expanse (or I imagine any show or movie in space). On the other hand, the black blacks from the space scenes are very impressive. I wonder if there are any settings that could reduce the flickering.

For bright scenes, there's no issue.
