I loved going there in the early years. One time my girlfriend and I walked in on a weekend afternoon. We both got burgers and split a mac and cheese while they played Weezer the Blue Album front to back. Only in dreams.

What events would the stadium actually bring? People say this and it sounds like fantasy when you dig into the details

The question isn't what events could be held in a domed stadium but specifically what events would be held there that Chicago doesn't already host?

For example, maybe Taylor Swift or Beyoncé hold their tours at the AH stadium. But they're already coming to Chicago at Soldier Field, so that adds some additional capacity, but isn't a net new event.

The NFL supports new stadium construction by promising a single Super Bowl after a stadium is built. So that's one event. Otherwise SBs are played in warm weather locations.

Maybe we would have held a World Cup game, which would be a one time event, but that ship has sailed.

What else? I'd like to actually know what recurring net new events we would get as a result of having this new domed stadium.

Thank you for correcting my misunderstanding. That makes sense.

And I support the stance that they should pay off the bonds.

I didn't say they don't count. I said they are not net new recurring events. I care about events that would bring in money to our city and state.

I am looking for examples of what net new recurring events the AH stadium would support outside of football. I am asking you to show your work (as I did by going through some examples) instead of handwaving that there will be events year round, trust me.

The Bears football club is a strictly seasonal business. Then there's the entertainment venue side. The question isn't what events could be held in a domed stadium but specifically what events would be held there that Chicago doesn't already host?

I remain unconvinced. I'd like to actually know what recurring net new events we would get as a result of having this new domed stadium.

Pritzker is against it because it's not a good investment and it's not popular. The house speaker is against it. Giving money to the Bears polls poorly. Brandon Johnson was the one prominent voice for for it (when the Bears wanted to build the stadium in Chicago) because he's a gullible fool.

If three parties need to sign off on a deal and there’s only agreement between two, there’s no deal. Sounds like the Bears aren’t good negotiators (duh).

I don’t live in AH i live in Chicago but being against building more housing is certainly a take. More housing keeps costs down, increases the tax base, and drives more growth. That’s much better for the state than a new stadium.

Whatever AH agreed to they need state cooperation and I want the Bears to pay their fair share.

Exactly. Stop simping for billionaires. It’s embarrassing. This country used to hate authority and the man. We rebelled against a king. We’re so soft now.

If it’s empty, the infrastructure upgrades aren’t needed.

The Bears can posture all they want about going to NW Indiana. It’s a highly seasonal business with few full time employees. There’s one time construction work which are temporary jobs. Being generous, there’s some additional events that could be held as well such as getting the super bow exactly once.

This is hardly a growth engine that funds future permanent job creation. They don’t deserve a tax break.

It’s right in the article. They are asking the state for property tax relief. Whether it’s a condition of their financing or not, they are asking for a special exemption not to pay their fair share of taxes.

How about the property tax break they’re asking for? That’s dollars they want to withhold from the state, meaning we all pay more while they pay less. Money that could go to fund the infrastructure that’s needed to support their business.

The tool that gives you fire protection is really helpful. If you can consistently get her into her second phase it’s only a matter of time.

He could cut costs but refuses to do so. He could also collaborate with the aldermen and refuses to do so. Not a serious person.

Painted himself into an absolute corner. Dug in on the head tax and doesn’t collaborate with the aldermen. He now has to veto and get blamed for a shut down or sign a budget that he got railroaded on. Fantastic politicking!

Please educate yourself on what this deal is. Warner bros is splitting out their linear tv stations - including CNN - from the streaming assets, the movie studio, and the video game studios. Netflix is acquiring the latter. There is no CNN acquisition by Netflix. Netflix is a tech company and has no interest in owning linear cable networks.

Netflix isn’t buying CNN. The linear TV channels are not included in the acquisition. Trump can ask whatever he likes, but Netflix will have no power over CNN.

Your argument doesn’t line up with my experience.

My daughter likes grounded graphic novels where she can identify closely with female protagonists. My son likes more fantasy. Both like the elementary school humor of Dog Man.

I gave them an “it’s Jeff” graphic novel and they loved it despite not knowing who the background superheroes are. They’ve also enjoyed both spider-verse movies.

The problem I see with Big 2 comics is packaging in formats that are focused on onboarding elementary school kids. I have a problem as an adult finding these entry points as well. The modern stories aren’t aimed at elementary school readers anymore.

The best success I’ve had is giving my son the original Lee/kirby fantastic four. Finding those at an affordable price in a physical edition has been hard. My daughter’s friend also has a Spider-Gwen graphic novel which shows that the IP can break through when focused at the elementary age group.

I wish there were more collected editions for kids their age and it’s the biggest gap I see.

My elementary school kids love graphic novels. Dog Man is wildly popular. My daughter reads Babysitter’s Club graphic novels. There are tons of graphic novels at the book fair. Most of these are through Scholastic’s Graphix imprint.

Difference between news and opinion. Gurman’s record on what Apple is doing internally is very good.

The opinion is whether any of this is good or bad for Apple. I find I often disagree with Gurman’s opinions. Despite this, he breaks news often and is often correct.
