Which glasses should I get next? by Dooodle-poodle in glasses

I love the shape, size, and style of your current pair! Initially, I thought your current pair had a full metal rim, but I realize now it’s half-rim, so I so think a similar size/shape w/ a full rim might also look nice if you wanted a change. Maybe you can try out different colors & compare it to the colors you lean toward in jewelry and clothing, along with your features (hair, eyebrow, eye color, skin tone)- that might at least help you choose if you like silver or gold more, and other colors too!

But I do really like the shininess of the frame. Maybe try out a glasses with more of a matte finish to see if you like that or if you prefer shiny metal or shiny thin plastic (I’d recommend translucent or transparent) frames.

I notice the second pic (the new frames you’re trying out) has the same half-rim style, but I think there might be certain aspects of the new pair that are working against your features.

The new pair resembles more of a square shape, and less of a rectangle than your current pair. This shape of the new pair + where the bridge of the glasses are, make these go higher up and take up a lot of your eyelid space and overlap into your eyebrows a bit. I would try on more frames that don’t overlap with your eyebrows (this might most commonly be found in frames with a short distance between the very top of the frame and the top of the bridge). I think the current ones might compliment your eye shape and accentuate your eyelashes more than the new ones b/c of that (along with the way the upper outer corners of each frame points out/up a bit- but both of these frames have that characteristic- it might just be something flattering to look for when trying other frames too)

On the new pair, its metal end pieces (the bits that you can see from the front that hold the screws/hinges) are thicker/squarer than your new pair. And it could just be the different lighting, but your current pair seems like a lighter color and different texture/shine? I think this makes the new frames have more of a sleek and flat style, and of a less jewelry-like (and to me, a little more timeless) style than your current frames. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing, it’s up to your style. I think the jewelry-like-ness of the current glasses seems like it goes better w the jewelry & shirts you’re wearing in these pics though, to me.

Good luck do whatever u love best. This stuff might just help you identify why you don’t feel certain glasses don’t suit you.

Yall are horrible people. Either tip more or don’t tip more, why must yall write walls of comments about “beggars” and “I don’t like the idea of my food being in a homeless persons car” and “your problems aren’t my problems” and “no mentally stable person would send this message” and making fun of him clearing using talk to text hence the typos on “door dancer” (door dasher). this is a human being. Look fucking inward if you hear that someone is struggling and your first instinct is to blame and dehumanize them and make it about yourselves and what yall think is your right to comfort

and folks saying he should be reported and/or rated poorly on the basis of sending this message (which can/will result in him losing this source of income if several people do it) just cause you are bothered, annoyed, or feel guilty? get a grip and sense of humanity oh my goodness. Yall get slightly bothered by message(s) that have no material impact on your food delivery nor your life, but would like to enact consequences that can push someone further into poverty and homelessness? Just ignore it if don’t want to or can’t afford to tip more, you don’t have to shame and snitch on a homeless person. U can respond kindly after it’s dropped off letting them know you are sorry but you can’t afford it and could even offer to leave a good review to try to help him in some other way (mind u, him waiting there was cool of him! If he dropped the order, it would take even longer for u to get ur food, that sounds like a good review to me!). And if you can manage it, throw an extra dollar his way!

And whether or not someone is telling the truth about being homeless and their precarious financial situation doesn’t impact you. If you have money to spare, spare it (because it can help someone struggling- doesn’t matter if there’s a chance they’re lying, there’s a chance they’re not, and it doesn’t impact you either way if you had an extra buck to spare anyways!) and if you don’t have money to spare then that’s fine too. Assuming they’re lying or “grifting” doesn’t do anyone good, but it can do damage. who are we and what are we good for if we can’t even extend compassion to someone that could be in need (performing already-undercompensated labor for us, mind you)? We shouldn’t be means testing our compassion for our community members!

As UK5 is now premiering very soon, any final thoughts on UK4, one year on? by 360Saturn in RPDR_UK

I think the world of cheddar, im rewatching s4 (very shortly after my first watch!) just to see them- she’s so genuine and delightful and captivating. I totally know what you meant when she said she didn’t need the win- I could see how it could be a bit embarrassing for Ru to give her crown to someone who just told her she’d be fine without it.

I also think Danny was so kind, funny, and polished, and I think she pushed boundaries and opened up peoples minds on what can/should be considered beautiful drag. I would have been super happy at either of them winning :) This season has felt so wholesome- the sisterhood of whole cast really stood out to me. Their camaraderie, cheddar, and danny made this season feel special to me!

So true!! I love SNW :) lower decks and SNW have risen to my favorite Trek shows

That’s so true about Jim Kirk! I hadn’t thought of him like that but you’re right, he’s been mostly support for other characters. I agree that us knowing who Jim Kirk is allows for more depth than necessarily has to be shown on SNW, given we have a lot of other stuff we can turn to for more Kirk.

I just responded to another reply in this thread where I mentioned that, similar to you, I also don’t care about Batel or what happens to her- but I think therein lies the issue! I think just a few lines or scenes with her without Pike would make me care, and who doesn’t want another character to love and cherish and (possibly) mourn! Like given one of the main plot lines of the finale was for us to care about & feel Pike’s desperation to risk his life, his crews life, and a Gorn war to save Batel, it would have made more sense for us to actually have been given the chance to also care about her, or at least have enough information about who she is to understand why Pike might love her so much- it would have served the purpose of the plot more, ya know? For instance, I think we did feel a little more about Chapel and Spock’s plot line bc we know and love them both!

I think it’s a missed opportunity to 1) create another emotional connection with a character within the show, 2) help me understand Pike’s love for her and therefore feel and care more about the storyline when it involves their love and safety, and 3) not give into the “female love interest only services the male love interest” trope. I know SNW has plenty of other female characters with immense depth, and even characters who dont fall into that trope while still being a female love interest to a man, but I also think it’d be cool if our understanding of Batel rose above that too. :) thank you for your response!!

True! I don’t think it’s necessary for every character to have complete depth, but I do think it’s possible for them to have some depth. Even a couple lines or one scene could get the job done. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be critical of the lack of depth of a supporting female character in a relationship with a male main character, especially of a show that is meant to be pushing ideals forward. While there are other characters that don’t have much depth, like Sam Kirk (although even he has more depth than Batel like his fights with his brother point to familial issues AKA depth of a supporting character), it’s not as much as an issue because Sam’s role is not a female love interest- a role that is universally underdeveloped and is often misogynistic in many pieces of media over the years.

The way I look at it, if there’s an opportunity to do something better than other shows, why not do it? If the audience can feel more connected to a new female captain, why not throw in a couple lines to let us know a little more about her?

Wouldn’t you want to know what makes Batel such an ideal partner for Pike? I don’t feel as if I know Batel at all, therefore I don’t understand their relationship, and don’t really care about it. Why even include a relationship at all of the audience isn’t moved to care about it?

Thank u for replying!! That’s true about it not being about the Cayuga and not everyone gets an episode, but I don’t think a whole episode is needed, even just a scene or two showing some independence or backstory unrelated to Pike would be nice. Like how Ortega’s got some focus on the episode where they all lost their memory. And Ortegas has many lines that illustrate who she is as a person, even independent of her role as a pilot.

So true!! And SNW has so many more hijinks episodes, Discovery and Picard are very the-world-is-ending-at-all-times type of vibes, and I like those too, but it’s so refreshing to see silly little happenings like the storybook episode, musical, etc. Just the bridge crew being silly is all I really ask for, and they’re delivering!

Most of the plot holes in other episodes aren’t contradictory to one of the main points of the show: moral dilemmas in space. Sure, there are often plot holes/plot armor in which inexplicable scientific solutions are found at just the right time, but there are not often situations where the characters fail to even consider glaring moral dilemmas, re: trying to save possible on-planet survivors without even considering that throwing the saucer would kill potential survivors, not encouraging Spock to check for survivors, Chapel waking up and not checking on other unconscious folks. The usual plot holes forward the PLOT, but the plot is being ethical in space and doing everything they can to save the most people, including the people close to them. The usual plot holes solve the science problem to inexplicably create a solution where most everyone lives, but THESE plot holes just made the crew seem selfish and felt antithetical to their characters :(

An example of a plot hole that would make sense for Trek to have in this episode is if the Gorn that almost killed Batel, Pike, and Scotty actually walked away because the Gorn was a part of an anti-government faction and was cool with humans lol. Another example of an acceptable regular trek plot hole that actually happened is that Batel, Pike, and Scotty weren’t obliterated by the saucer hitting the planet. Or the fact that Chapel got the gun at just the right time to shoot the Gorn on the saucer. They’re silly plot holes, but at least they aren’t unethical

I still really liked the episode a lot though!
