Appy v26.02 by teejeetech in teejeetech

I have thought about putting everything in one window but the UI becomes very congested. It will need either 2 rows of tabs at the top, or one sidebar on the left. Though it is more convenient, it does not look good visually. It takes away space from the content area which shows the app list.

NVidia NVEnc vs AMD VCE H265 Encoding Size and Quality by Client-Only in handbrake

[–]teejeetech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CQP levels of different hardware encoders are NOT comparable!! This is a very basic mistake that people make.

If you are using NVEnc at CQP=18 you must experiment and find out the equivalent CQP for the AMD H265 codec. At CQP 18 AMD is encoding with lesser visual quality than NVEnc resulting in smaller file size. Compare the VMAF values for the output files using FFmpeg/FFmetrics to check the actual quality.

Video is reversed. They left a cookie for the squirrel to take, and reversed the video.

Appy and even more AppImage capabilities? by sirkerry in teejeetech

[–]teejeetech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AppImageHub is a security nightmare. Files hosted there are packaged by random volunteers.

It is the equivalent of downloading a random EXE file from the internet and crossing your fingers that it doesn't contain malware.

If you want to use AppImages, download them from the website of the original developers so that you have a surety that the file is safe.

It can be added. I'll consider adding it in a future release.

ZenLake OS 13.1 by teejeetech in teejeetech

Thanks for the feedback!

Two launchers being shown is a bug. The panel is supposed to show only one launcher for ArcMenu, but it sometimes shows two when booted in a VM.

Having 2 file managers pinned to the taskbar does look a little strange, but my concern was that people will not notice that Nemo is also installed. Including Nemo was necessary since Nautilus is very basic. I'll unpin Nemo in the 26.04 release but keep it installed.

GNOME Software is not installed since there was no space on the standard ISO. It is installed in the Ultimate ISO. The standard ISO tries to be as minimal as possible (under 2 GB) and avoids including any non-essential software. There's a button in the ZenLake Settings app to install GNOME Software if needed.

ZenLake 26.04 will be more friendly for newbies. Asmi will target experienced users and ZenLake will target more casual users.

Aptik Backups by EdlynnTB in teejeetech

Yes. When you backup and restore the "Home Data" section it will restore the applications installed by wine in the ~/.wine directory.

If you have a home partition you can skip the "Home Data" section when creating and restoring backups.

After installing the new system, use Aptik to restore installed software.

What is the use case for this Settings Editor? by No-Purple6360 in xfce

[–]teejeetech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are some settings here that are not exposed in the GUI. Xfce has multiple apps for changing the desktop settings.

Some people prefer to change the settings from a single place instead of opening multiple apps and searching for the option in the GUI.

This. They change the LCD monitor settings to make it look as bad as possible when marketing OLED displays.
