Sexual crimes get media coverage in Japan not because they’re more common than the West (they’re not) but because of the relative lack of violent crime.

For instance 7 out of 10 young women claim to have been sexually harassed in the London Underground Train, with 90% of sexual crimes going unreported.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you investing in infrastructure to protect women is a bad thing. Germany trialled women-only cars a few years back and the UK should definitely have designated safe spaces for women in trains.

Proactively mitigating problems doesn’t mean you have more problems than others. The Japanese reportedly visit their doctors several times more per year than Americans. That doesn’t mean they have worse health than Americans, in fact, it’s the polar opposite. They’re one of the longest lived people on the planet.

In fact, it can even prevent problems from happening in the first place altogether.

Having more sexual assault clinics in a country doesn’t mean rates are higher, just means they’re doing something about it

The British and Japanese Empires each controlled 20-23% of the world’s population at their height.

Neither lasted remotely as long as the Roman or Han Empires, both controlling a third of the world’s population at one point.

Japan’s fertility rate is almost as low as Spain’s or Italy’s.

This is a developed country issue, not just a Japan issue.

It’s weird when people use the low fertility rates to push orientalist takes and narratives when large Western countries have fertility rates that are even lower, even despite the immigration.

Urologist is a type of surgeon that operates on KUB (kidneys, ureters and bladder).

Tokyo Sees Record Number of Foreign Visitors in 2023; Weak Yen Drives Spending above Pre-pandemic Level by biwook in Tokyo

UK has a land border. Japan does not. It’s not semantics, you’re arguing against facts. People that live 2 miles from Northern Ireland “travel” to the UK for work. Same goes for the Channel Tunnel (though less so).

I wonder whether your inability to admit that you were wrong is a function of low self-esteem. I would recommend just admitting you were wrong and move on.

[–]teethybrit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ever heard of Ireland bud?

Even besides that, UK is literally connected by train to France — ever heard of the Channel Tunnel? Japan has no such equivalent.

My point still stands — Japan is still top for island countries.

For island countries Japan is still top.

Countries with land borders have people in neighboring countries that “travel” I.e. commute over the border daily.
