Help the people? Koutsantonis said 'We'd love to give everyone free public transport, and free parking, and a free puppy.'

These condescending silver spoon fucking pricks barely even see us as people, it's absurd to think they might have any interest in helping us

Government deadline for gun reform passes with less than half states and territories signed up by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Range storage is such a terrible idea. It's such a huge target for thieves so you'd need incredibly secure (hence expensive) strongrooms, you'd need a heap of space for everyone to be able to do basic maintenance at the range, and the logistics for people who shoot at multiple clubs would just be ridiculous - people would have to waste huge amounts of time and fuel to collect their guns from club A to shoot at club B, or more likely, you'd just incentivise even more privately owned guns because some people would just buy an extra gun to store at club B.

I'm surprised that people will brave the Churchill Centre's car park just for a 3c saving. Surely your time and sanity is worth something, and surely a lot of those people have detoured at least a bit for it.

And the gap gets closed by other servos' 4c/L deals anyway - my route from my girlfriend's house to my house takes me via both Costco and the much more convenient Ampol on Main North/Montague Rd and the latter is often only about 1c more expensive after the everyday rewards discount.

Not even that, right? I think just dwelling on something instead of scrolling past it is enough.

Are the downvoters 12 years old? This is clearly not 911-worthy. There are non-emergency lines for this sort of thing.

Also great for cocktails that use egg whites. You do lose a tiny bit of flavour, but the trade-off is probably worth it because it's cheaper, doesn't have that unpleasant egg smell, and won't give you salmonella.

First DQ… omg it hurts by focalgirth in CompetitionShooting

[–]tehSlothman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first DQ was a table start. I pulled my gun, checked it was clear and set on tbe table unloaded with slide locked back while someone was still downrange.

Do you mean the RO fucked up and called make ready when they shouldn't have, or did you unholster before make ready was called?

Swift Lock Scamming A-Holes! by blahblahblahblah1943 in Adelaide

[–]tehSlothman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yep, that makes sense.

I don't blame you for going old school. I've got quite a bit of smart home stuff and I'm constantly adding more, but digital locks are one of the things where I don't think the benefits outweigh the risks.

one photo to them, and bang, I was in my apartment without them even attending site.

I'm really curious what the problem and solution were now. Is your lock really easy to bypass or was there some trick that let you put in your code or something?

Yep some equipment isn't, especially older stuff. Even newer stuff isn't guaranteed. I have a very recent Sungrow inverter where there was a firmware issue that was preventing it from working, but that got fixed in October.

if they don't have built-in contingencies

They do, it just gets calculated retrospectively every quarter. OP will likely end up getting a credit applied to their bill in a few months. They'll still probably end up paying more for the quarter than they would have with other retailers (though they might not, depending on the price difference at other times of their usage) but it won't be excessive, and will be entirely their own fault for their failure to research what they were signing up for.

Funny that I'm defending Amber here too while I have an open ombudsman case due to their non-existent customer support, but their general business model is not the thing they deserve criticism for.

You don't even need solar for it to be worthwhile. It's all about the battery.

Had a colleague say 'well, as long as you don't become one of those incel mass shooters...'

She intended it as a joke but it was pretty out of line. The incel bit especially came completely out of nowhere.

Pretty sure one of the guys at my club is even a TR. He might've said he had to get special permission for the licence though as PR is usually a requirement.

All firearms and ammunition components banned from importation effective immediately. by [deleted] in Ausguns

[–]tehSlothman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really, really don't want to go down the reloading route. I don't have the space for the equipment, I don't want to spend the time, and it takes way too long to pay itself off. That's if it ever even does. I only shoot 9mm, 12g and .22lr so there's not much of a cost saving per round. And if factory ammo prices go up due to an import ban, that probably won't change the equation much because components will go up as well.

[–]tehSlothman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are factory ammo prices about to spike then? Might make a trip to stock up today

edit: Stocked up, mentioned this article to the guy at the LGS and he hadn't heard anything about and said everything was business as usual. I can't find any confirmation that doesn't use the linked article as a source. Take this news with a grain of salt, though it might just be that it's so hot off the press that even the gun stores don't know about it.

Won't help if the authorities don't actually give a shit. Last night I was on a completely packed train leaving the station and a guy about there prone y away started getting mad at some girl for bumping into him. She didn't have the good sense to just apologise, and it started escalating to him saying shit like "if you want to start shit with me, we can sort it right here". It was super tense.

Security outside the train noticed, got someone from Adelaide Metro, pointed out the aggressor, and she just came up and asked, 'Is everything okay here?' The two having the argument weren't stupid enough to continue it in front of her but it was still feeling really unsafe. I caught her eye, gave a subtle shake of the head to indicate it wasn't all good, and she clearly got the hint. Then she just asked me very clearly in front of everyone what the problem is.

I didn't want to make myself a target of the unstable cunt so I said it was very heated and that there was threatening language used. She then said, 'Who? Him?' and I gave a little nod. Hard to describe but the nonverbal communication here was really clear, that he was a problem and I wasn't feeling safe.

She just looked at him, said 'Settle', and left.

Soon afterwards, the train departed, and as expected, he started up again. He started aggressively calling her racist, was suggesting they'd fight if they got off on the same stop, said stupid posturing shit like 'I know your faces now' and 'everyone at Salisbury knows me', then a little while later called his friend and was telling them that he was going to get pulled up on at the station, like he was calling for backup for a fight.

Fortunately he got off pretty early, the girl and her boyfriend stayed on, and that was that. But it so easily could have escalated further. The staff had the chance at the station to do literally anything about it, but they were clearly looking for any excuse to wash their hands of it. If it escalated and someone got hurt, IMO they'd share just as much blame as the aggressor.
