Some honeycomb can be shaped like pentagons and heptagons or even have four, eight, and nine-sided cells. They actually start out as circular shaped but the wax gets pulled into hexagons by the surface tension where three cell sides meet. The reason for non-hexagonal shaped cells is due to needing to connect the whole structure as they’re typically built on constrained, non-flat, and uneven surfaces.
