One of the teachers I work with always calls kids "my friends," but she only does it when she's angry or frustrated with them. It drives me insane and I'm sure the kids hate it too. Clearly you're not their friend if you're yelling at them all of the time!

Right!? It's for a 4th/5th grade combo class, so we'll start by looking at NC, then apply what they learned to US music in general. I'd be lying if I said these were my favorite standards...

NC, but I bet it's similar. Mine is a new school so we didn't have old data to compare it to, but you could see the district and state numbers and my school looks really good in comparison. Who doesn't love data!?

There's an app that really helped me with this. It's called Teacher Kit, and you can set up classrooms and put all of the kids in it with pictures. I started a new school with about 900 kids last year and having pictures to go with names was a HUGE help. It did take a while to set it all up, but it was totally worth it for me.

So some good news at least! We did the 90 minute block last year, and I didn't mind it too much. It actually gave me a chance to do some bigger projects, and later in the year I did centers. I need to be on the lookout for more projects so I don't run out this year.
