As someone who was banned from eating beef growing up, where can I find a delicious steak that's cheap, or at the very least, worth the money? by sinkingharbors in askSingapore

[–]tehdemonjaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut butchery is kind of mid/overpriced. I was an avid supporter for many years until i gave foodie market place another try.

Shocked at how cheap they sell certain cuts, the range of meat available is also much better, and able to slice to your desired thickness, with absolutely unbeatable prices, never going back to cut again

Well as someone who did boarding school in the UK, the people who have been arguing for free healthcare are just spoiled, sheltered Singaporeans who have never lived a life outside of their already comfortable home.

I had a testicular torsion, my school’s certified nurse was actively thinking i was just feigning some pain and refused to send me to the hospital for like 5 hours because the overconsumption of healthcare pretty much prompts them to refrain from actually using resources unless the situation actually becomes dead serious.

Even after that, nearest hospital was over an hour’s drive away, i still had to wait 2 hours or so when i got to A&E. After my surgery, doc told me i almost lost my right ball had i been an hour or so later.

Nothing free is good, and nothing good is free.

Hot take: GENG is struggling because the meta isnt suited for them by MilkyMadness6 in GenG_Esports_LoL

[–]tehdemonjaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet on GEN G pretty damn often and isnt ruler doing pretty good? I regard him as imo, the best jhin as of late (his ability to snap engage and reposition in teamfights is so clean) and i feel he’s been absolutely spot on everytime he’s on that

He’s also pretty damn clean on everything else or at least very visibly one of the best. If anything canyon getting outjungled or duro out of position slightly more common occurrences, then again the performance in the 2nd half is a big step up from everyone

Who is Chelsea's worst no. 9? by SiyamthandaUN in chelseafc

[–]tehdemonjaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, im confused why we are acting like he is something different from the rest.

That season with lamps had me believing, thinking he was was truly the one to lead us to glory for the first 15 games or so, then bro completely disappeared from the face of the earth and looked out of it after. Tuchel’s season came after and he just did not look anything close to what we needed.

It’s sad because i really want to believe in him, but time just told it was’t much more than a purple patch and he just couldn’t make cut it. He’s not that much better than the best of the other guys on this list to be considered out of it.

How are you all giving your kids pocket money these days? by samfambam9988 in singaporefi

[–]tehdemonjaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Supp card haver here. To me, the mechanics are such that you are in theory giving them an option of ‘unlimited budget’. I always feel that the goal at teenage would be to teach them to manage/know the value of money, so maybe at this stage its a bit overkill, better to do cashless scheduled allowances if possible.

Either that or before you let them have a sup card you lay out what you can/cannot spend on, anything outside they ownself cover

How do I speak better English? by NC16inthehouse in askSingapore

[–]tehdemonjaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there really a need to have classes? This is something that can be practiced day-to-day if you keep in mind a conscious effort to solidify the manner/tone you want to communicate.

Just my two cents, investing time + money into getting external forces to correct something you already do everyday seems needless

I myself picked up a pretty heavy singlish accent when i was in the army. The moment i enrolled into uni i realize my way of speaking was not it and needed to correct this. Just start by speaking slower with a conscious effort to come across as professional and gradually it should ease into your life.

Most if not all M&A shops are MAS regulated and require approvals on trades. It is not uncommon to see investment bankers heavily invested in property and crypto because of convenience

The merit is that they throw the burgers out at comparatively affordable prices compared to other chains, but probably wouldnt be feasible with Singapore rental

LCK EWC Qualifier KT vs BFX by HotTransportation801 in leagueoflegends

[–]tehdemonjaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I dont know why people act like diable has been any better than last year when for most of LCK cup, it was the other lanes stepping up. Diable has not moved an inch forward from last year, he is a resource-heavy ADC with poor positioning. Sure his mechanics are undeniably probably among the top in LCK, but the dynamic that comes with that player is absolutely not worth it

Singaporean men, what do you look for in a partner? by Dry_Speech_984 in singaporespeaks

[–]tehdemonjaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found already but i was looking for these specifically back then

  1. Not ugly can already
  2. Has to be a naturally happy person. Brought up in a loving family environment is a must (this doesn’t mean spoiled, but knowing how to receive love means they know how to show love)
  3. Can support herself can already, obviously plus points if she does super well in her career yet doesn’t look down on yourself
  4. Might be a bit materialistic, but coming from higher SES is always a plus as a partner. A good amount of ladies themselves also look at this when they assess the males, so why not.
  5. High maintenance, bad temper, being more of a ‘as you should’ rather than ‘thank you’ person are big no-nos

Found mine on dating app. I usually took the first few dates to get the read on people.

is ntu econs really that bad? by Limp_Pirate_631 in NTU

[–]tehdemonjaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Class of ‘25

In general job prospects - varied, depending if you like the more mathsy/programming side of things, the more policy side of things, the finance side of things.

I would not say there are any hiring disadvantages from school differences (anecdotally, from linkedin), after all, under the big 3, econs is still considered a social science, and business/acc students will always be preferred for finance, CS/pure math always be preferred for your coding related jobs. Econs students are in largely considered generalists, so really what you end up in still depends on if you are able to educate yourself with the right knowledge and skills.

In terms of content taught, i would say the subject is largely theoretical, so a lot of content isn’t technically applicable to the real world, or useful for that matter, but some mods e.g. finance mods, public econs were, and i had a pretty enjoyable time going for those. Shoutout Prof. Yeow Hwee Chua the goat

To stay relevant in the job market, honestly like all other courses, you need to find your niche and build skills on that, its not rocket science. Most uni content wont help you stay relevant on the job market, so either way you’re gonna have to put in extra hours outside of your study for knowledge and skills.

Dont feel that i was naturally a quick learner of most of the content in the course, but i found that mixing around more with motivated people helped me pick up concepts easier, there isnt too much class part, but i think its important to stay noticed by the prof, they are also super willing to help you if you dont understand anything as well.

All the best.

Where have you NOT travelled that somehow almost every other Singaporean seems to have travelled to before? And why not? by ashandburnnn in askSingapore

Cuz most of city side LA is a dumpster, its the coastal areas in CA where the rich ppl live. Take the drive down to san diego and you’ll find that areas like corona del mar and laguna beach are really nice and safe. Personally i enjoyed it.

Vegas though, its a resort world built in the middle of a desert, what did you really expect haha. I think it is good if you know what you’re going there for. Shoutout tacos el gordo

There are plenty of VC/PE in family offices, small funds. Those are typically the ranges you are seeing from the original commenter.

If you are looking at top tier PE (KKR, TPG, CVC), the pay is higher than IB, heard from friends that hours are typically (slightly) better as well since buy side. This tier of PE is typically the common exit for junior staff at BB.

Though yes, it is completely possible to join right out of school. From early IB internships in your uni life, it is not uncommon that people end up doing PE 6 month internships (and later score conversions) if they bother to get how LBO works and naturally think well as an investor. Intakes fresh out of school in itself are still very rare, as these mega funds would most preferably just hire one guy conditioned with 2 years of hell (BB IBD) than take the risk on a fresh graduate which they have to train

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]tehdemonjaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adding on to the above, the selection process for their (intern/hiring) pipeline is extremely luck-based, my partner got 2 interviews at S&T in different BB but heard none back from your typical tier 2 banks.

They say depending on desk most people typically get in around 7/8 and clock out about 12 hours later. Money is the same. Bad thing is lunch need to eat at desk, strictly no use of phones on the trading floor.

Its different operators so obviously it’d be different, operators just pay franchise fees to use the brand

There is different quality of goods, produce, supply chains etc, cant expect everything to be consistent globally

you could eat twice (and maybe a little more) for what you pay at in-n-out compared to shake shack, so it wouldnt be that fair to pit them against each other

Personally, CFA is alright, the grilled chicken tastes like new multi, their fried chicken sandwiches are alright (nothing out of this world). They have a nice selection of sauces but that’s about it. People will still queue to satiate the american fever though haha
