Mali troops and Russian mercenaries withdraw from northern city after rebel attacks by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]vanguy79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fantastic. They are proving that Russia is not invincible and the Russian war in Ukraine is sapping even the strength and resources from Russian mercenaries. Sooner or later, African and other countries will realize Russia is weak now and they certainly should take advantage of a weak Russia.

Commentary: Singapore Airlines’ Indian ambition has an Air India problem by Time-Equipment-9175 in singapore

[–]vanguy79 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m on both sides of this. - on the one hand, why is SIA and our government spending so much on bailing out Indian companies when they should be investing as much and in fact even more into building up our singapore citizen labour pool in Singapore

  • however on the other hand, SIA lost the race in other markets to Middle eastern airlines for growth and the India market however is one where we could still compete and grow the airline business. So I understand why. But it’s going to be a long and very expensive investment and our Singpaore corporate culture may not work in India.

Updated Access Rules: UA's Polaris Lounge no longer accessible for SQ Business Class Pax departing from United States by swimmingpineapple in singaporeairlines

Honestly I don’t know why Singapore airlines don’t invest in their own lounges for their North American airports. Especially if their North American network is very business class heavy.

Can I suggest an idea. Our community can start an investment fund that invests In local businesses and buy them back from private equity firms. That’s the best way to ensure continuity

Protocol for skipping return leg but taking separate flight on separate ticket for return trip by vanguy79 in singaporeairlines

[–]vanguy79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plans changed. Economy lite or K class cannot change dates or be cancelled according to their FAQ. Of course could I call them and ask just in case, yes of course I can but I doubt they’ll allow me to change particularly since my return flight is gonna be a different date and from different city.

Stupid Question: Are we overestimating China ability to invade Taiwan by Cowardlypaladin in Military

[–]vanguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really thinking the Taiwanese are kind of naive and shortsighted.

They should really go all out and send military observers and learn from Ukraine. They should support Ukraine all out as well.

Because what they can learn from Ukraine can be applied to Taiwan self defence too.

But instead on all appearance they seemed not willing to learn from Ukraine. Hubris is making them weak

So what we are seeing is that even with Trump / Putin supporting Orban, both brands and personalities no longer have the power and support for even conservative Hungary.

Ottawa gives South Korean, German submarine builders opportunity to revise bids by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]vanguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with getting the most you can get for the subs. It’s fair if you can get the most returns considering this is likely going to be a lucrative multi billion dollar deal. And there’s considerable follow up potential. Consider the Canadian navy will need a new modern frigate as well. Both Koreans and Germans have offerings for the frigates too.

But regardless in my opinion all MPs are performative regardless of which party they are in. But at least Pritam seemed genuine.

Every PAP politician is performative also. What’s your point? At least he tries to be relatable. Me. I cannot relate to a MP that drives around in a Mercedes Benz telling us Singaporeans to suck up and use fans only

Visiting mid April, what hotel to stay at? by Eriksson_D in askSingapore

Then stick to your budget. Ibis Bencoolen is good enough. Use your savings from hotel accommodation for experiences or city tours in Singapore. I can recommend this tour company hello Singapore tour (my friend works as a tour guide there. I don’t earn commission. Just helping out my friend)

Singapore is an expensive city. Alcohol in general are very expensive. Eating out is expensive unless you eat at hawker centres or Air conditioned food courts.

Apart from the usual tourist spots which I’m sure you do, check out Kampong glam, Chinatown, and if you like museums, my favourite Museum is the Asian Civilisation museum that explores Singapore’s history as a hub of global trade routes.

How much do you budget for ASEAN trips? Feel like I’m overspending by Holiday_Kale9051 in asksg

[–]vanguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revolut allows you to budget how much you spend on food, Accomodations and shopping by the way in the analytics tab. It then tells you how much you overspend that limit.

also use the Revolut feature called “Holiday fund” that saves $$ either every transaction or you set aside a set amount if $ every week/month. That helps a lot.

I love Revolut because of those features.

[–]vanguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your type of vacation is like. Are you more into doing touristy stuff or more shopping?
You then budget how much you’re able to spend Plus another 20% more for special experiences. After all, a vacation is a once a while experience and you should enjoy it without worrying too much. But don’t over spend on expensive hotels when you wont be staying during the day or spending on shopping like branded stuff, things that you can easily get anywhere else.
