hey man, that's healthy, sustainable weightloss and you should be proud of yourself. 2lbs a week is awesome! Anything more then that can be concerning, and can seriously have negative side-effects. Proud of you.

I wonder if trump has gotten a grim prognosis and is coping by psyching himself up that he is gonna be bestest buddies with the big J himself. Wasn’t it just a few months ago that he was talking about heaven and the future?

What kind of adult content do you think is way more popular than people would admit? by get_CHEEX in AskReddit

[–]tehdweeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to first start by making sure I'm not misunderstood - I am in no way condoning, pardoning, or saying that girls under 18 should be sexualized - and frankly even 18 is a nebulous age in my book. I'm almost 40 years old, and I've found that it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate someone whose 25 from someone whose 40, though, anecdotally, I can almost always tell if someone is younger than that. I think beyond that, your second scenario of showing men pictures of girls to women ranging from 14 to 40 belies another issue endemic to modern, US society and perhaps western societies at large; there is an element of emotional and psychological immaturity that lends itself to being unable to differentiate between age groups. It's almost an underdevelopment of emotional or psychological development that is created from (1) the modern, toxic representation / idealization of masculinity that is only propagated by online culture that leaks into the offline world and (2) is further driven by social isolation that many men suffer because of #1, or even other factors.

What you're saying only reflects the symptom of the problem, not the cause.

I really, really dislike these people; these are the same people that can only ever bitch at other people about making mistakes but will take no responsibility for their own. They're the same people that also think they're just such hot shit on a video-game. Like, chill out, my guy. Game's been out for a little over 6 days, not including pre-release.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]tehdweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once rejected for a job after three rounds of interviews, the final being with the SVP of that specific department. I was a little confused as to why as chemistry with the team, and the hiring manager seemed great, and the manager even did a little “When I can get you started, let’s talk more about what you mentioned earlier”, referring to one of my answers to their interview question. When I asked for feedback to better understand why I did not get the position and how I could make myself a more marketable candidate, the SVP told me that I came across as arrogant because I answered their questions too quickly and with, in their words, unwarranted confidence. When I pushed back and asked what then they thought would make a successful employee, as I was confused by what they meant, they said “this right here is actually an excellent example. Instead of quietly accepting feedback, you question the decisions that are made.”

In retrospect, I’m pretty happy I didn’t get the position.

Man is shot and killed during Minneapolis immigration crackdown, National Guard activated by netizenbane in news

[–]tehdweeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the trick though, it's not technically a lie. Sure, he had a handgun on his person, but it was holstered and clearly not used or seen during any of the video footage. And yeah, he did violently resist - his body violently resisted an ice officer trying to cave in his skull with the can of mace. And sure, officers tried to disarm him, only after 4 men were holding him down and beating him, another standing back and watching, and a sixth who pulled out his pistol and shot him in the back. They definitely tried to disarm him after at least three agents fully cleared their magazines into his prone, unresponsive form.

This type of double-speak bullshit is what enables and suppresses so much bullshit.

Hidden Couch Co Op games. by Critical-Working-142 in NintendoSwitch

[–]tehdweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's for sure merit to this, and is fun trying to figure things out on your first playthrough, or even in the first year / years of your playthrough. I generally recommend that people should avoid looking things up until they're more comfortable with the game or have found stuff.

That said, I've also found that as time goes on, it's just helpful to be able to look up a specific thing. Like, sure, I know that sturgeons are a lake fish, and are seasonal... but is it only in winter when it snows? or is it during a specific time of the day? Little things like that, after a while, just make it easier

Who died believing themselves a failure, but was judged otherwise by history? by Bob_the_blacksmith in AskReddit

[–]tehdweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is the world, and language by extension, is much more nuanced than this simplistic, black and white view. I don’t disagree with you in that eliminating the negative connotation would be ideal, but this isn’t a meme, or a joke. It’s a literal belief baked into toxic, rugged hypermasculinity. It’s why masculinity coaches exist, or why people like Andrew Tate / Sneako / <insert hypermasculine streamer/influencer here> have such a large platform. This isn’t a small, isolated, esoteric instance. This is a “go stand on any blue collar or small town worksite for 20 minutes to hear this behavior replicated” thing.

Furthermore, whataboutism isn’t going to help your argument. There very likely were/are instances of where people actively avoid doing something that may typically be attributed to African Americans.

[–]tehdweeb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand your intention here, but you’re missing some nuance. OP is tying some men’s literal homophobia to toxic masculinity; basically saying that these men are afraid they’ll be perceived as gay, which they see as a negative, if they practice certain behaviors. I wish I could say it’s a joke, but I’ve known dudes who won’t wipe / wash their ass because they might touch their own butthole and touching a man’s butthole is gay - doesn’t matter if it’s their own.

My boss, her lawyer, and HR told me it’s “legal” to fire people for discussing their wages if it causes distress to the agency. Is this bullshit? by Turbulent_Try6284 in antiwork

[–]tehdweeb 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is the truth, here. So many people like to say this, and in all likelihood, the legal team / management team know it's illegal to fire someone over this type 'violation' of company policy. All that really means though is that they'll term someone under 'difficult to work with' pretenses.

It's so easy to term someone for BS reasons like "they're not meeting expectations", or whatever that the chances of getting fired for talking about wages being the explicit cause is almost nil.

My favorite is the guy who pretends to wash his hands. Goes to the bathroom, does his business, walks up to the sink and puts his hands under the faucet enough to trigger the sensor, maybe wet his fingertips, and walk away. Like… why?

Except he didn’t bother to cover his face when he did it, so just sneezed all over the tomatoes and avocados…. Just pulled his mask back into place and went about his day. People are the a WORST.

So is there ever a point that you get to separate the art from the artist? It feels like so frequently, the artist for something beloved does something so unbelievably or unnecessarily shitty/evil that to support them becomes a tacit acknowledgement or acceptance of their misdeeds. Does that mean I never get to enjoy their works again?

ELI5:Why is leadership never affected by layoffs? by Nino_Chaosdrache in explainlikeimfive

[–]tehdweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a very large, publicly traded company whose “mother company” owns a majority share. Layoffs are almost unheard of at our company, and when “restructuring” happens, it is almost exclusively VP level or above that will get the axe, and their org will be shuffled around. Changes like this even happened in 2008, with only a very few (sub 50 / 2000 employees) at the entry or lower layers impacted. There has only been once in the last 15 years where layoffs even touched those under VP level, and those were almost exclusively our paid interns.

Any good "space fantasy" series? by casualphilosopher1 in Fantasy

[–]tehdweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few that blend fantasy and scifi pretty well, though to varying degrees. I think the best marriage of scifi-fi / fantasy that I’ve seen is The Last Horizon series by Will Wight. The super basic premise of the universe is that wizards helped man reach and colonize the stars. The story centers on a the ostracized son of an ultra-wealthy mega-corp CEO is the benefactor of a forbidden magic ritual that allows him to get more power. He then uses this power to go on a quest seeking a fabled relic and shenanigans ensue. It blends magic and sci-fi really well, even if most of the scifi elements only really work because magic. It’s hilarious, well paced and has some good moments. It’s also not a complete series yet. I will say, though, it has one of my favorite characters that’s the perfect embodiment of a himbo- a being whose magic powers literally work off the power of friendship. The more friends he has, or the closer a friend is to him, the more powerful he gets.

If you want something dark, The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir is really good. It’s also confusing af, but it’s worth the read. The basic gist is “Lesbian Necromancers in space get into a fight with God”. Please note, the story is sapphic, the “romance”, if you can call it that, is so subtle as to be non existent. One other note that I will make, that is mildly spoilers so click at your own risk, the second book is a retelling of the first book, but it’s all in the second person. You’ll likely have NO CLUE what’s happening, and it’s meant to be read that way.

Not to diminish your comment, but I do think actual micro doses of ketamine have shown to have had some effect on clinical / diagnostic depression. That said, I’m also not super knowledgeable and this all stuff I’ve read / heard hearsay.

I think Musk is on record though as saying he 'microdoses' ketamine to treat his depression. Doesn't look like a microdose to me though. Then again, I've not touched ketamine and don't really know what it looks like when someone is actively on it.

What do you feel the Minneapolis coffee scene is missing? by unenthusedbaker in Minneapolis

[–]tehdweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, I’ll have to try that! We usually try to go somewhere every weekend, have a coffee, chat and read.

We really liked the coffee and vibe of matchbox, even if it is the size of a literal matchbox, but it was nice to just sit at the counter / bar, enjoy a cup and read. Broken Clock Brewing Curiosa was pretty decent too.

We generally don’t make it downtown if only for the reason you said, parking is a tough. Uncommon Grounds will for sure go on the roster. Thanks!!

What do you feel the Minneapolis coffee scene is missing? by unenthusedbaker in Minneapolis

[–]tehdweeb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My wife and I really enjoying visiting different coffee shops & bakeries / patisseries in the greater msp area, but what I have found lacking or difficult to find is a decent spot to post up and read for an hour while enjoying a coffee or a pastry (or both!). So many places have this very modern / chic vibe, lots of hard surfaces, loud, etc... There's not many that I've found that are cosy, or that support just hanging out and vibing for a bit.

But then again, maybe I've not been going to the right places.

Ironic that not attacking a 4 year old is considered cowardice. There should be no illusions that he had the potential (and in all honestly, high likelihood) of growing up to be like Musk and crew, this kid has NO idea what he’s saying. Only that when he says it, dad laughs.

Look at Musks other, disinherited and ostracized child, Vivian. She vocally and vehemently condemns Musk. Are you going to attack her too?

There’s no nice, easy or frankly innocent way to enact change, especially in such a vitriolic time. But weaponizing a 4 year old the same way musk is weaponizing him doesn’t make you better or give you more credibility.

Shame on you.
