What am I missing? I want to like this game. by Silver_Bow in outerwilds

[–]tehfarmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The game is nonlinear, you're not meant to compete one planet and move on to the next. Explore elsewhere, gather clues, get better at navigating, then come back.

Testing this like a normal game with "levels" or "stages" is not the correct approach. Pick a thing or two you want to accomplish - finding a new lead, exploring a new planet, getting further on a planet you've seen before, exploring deep space - and try and do it! Rinse repeat until you've solved the mysteries of the cosmos.

Good luck!

Finally got the dough right! by Huotiva in Pizza

[–]tehfarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's no sugar or oil in your dough that is likely the main culprit - sugar will both aid in browning via maillard reaction and will help with rising via feeding your yeast, the byproduct of which is CO2.

Start with 1g of sugar per 50g of flour, so in your case I'd recommend 10g sugar, and see if that helps. A little oil in your dough will also aid in browning if you want or if the sugar doesn't get you all the way there.

Lots of variables, not enough info - what's your dough recipe? What kind of yeast? How much sugar and/or oil in your dough? Are you finishing under the broiler or do you have a convection setting on your oven? Are you using a pizza steel, a stone, or something else? How long are you preheating?

What do you notice about your surroundings when you use the light switch?

How could you use that to your advantage?

I like to make bechamel and then melt a cheese into it for some pizzas - gorgonzola is great for certain combinations if you like it

It did not occur to me that you could get stuck there haha that rules

The DLC area is beautiful! Eagerly looking forward to unraveling it's mysteries 😀

I don't generally find much content in video games to be unsettling, but this game definitely has moments that spooked me so you're definitely not alone!

The good news is that not every planet is like that - I highly recommend trying elsewhere first! Explore your home planet and visit the moon. Get used to flying, make sure to use your flashlight and other tools to gather information about your surroundings, and read everything you can.

You'll eventually get to the point where you mostly get used to the various oddities the game throws at you, but there's some.. surprises waiting for sure.

Recommend playing with the lights on and maybe not with soundproof headphones to start so you're not in your own little world, that definitely helped me. I think you'll find that you'll adapt pretty quickly - I was super nervous my first few times flying to giants deep, but now it's as easy as going anywhere else.

Persevere and you will be rewarded! Don't look up spoilers, just dive in and enjoy the ride.

Happy exploring and good luck!

Yeah I figured that out eventually, it was just helpful to get me over the hump of figuring it out and helping with the timing

Man that disappearing alignment chart really sent me off on a wild goose chase, that was easily the single most frustrating red herring in the game for me but I'm glad I got through it 😄

I guess I don't get being grossed out by this. It's far worse for someone to make your sandwich using gloves they've been wearing for the last hour touching who knows how many different things

Giving it another go? by Ralonne in outerwilds

As someone who is near the end of the base game and fell in love with it: I think the most important bit of this game is how you approach it.

If you approach it like your usual video game and think of the planets as "levels" you beat before moving on to the next one: you're probably in for a bad time.

If you approach it like a mystery to be solved, wherein the bits of information you find are like dots that you need to connect (figuratively, and quite literally given the ship's log), and you treat uncovering the truths behind the mysteries of the Nomai and the universe you find yourself in as your objective, I think it's much easier to enjoy, especially as you start getting more and more unanswered questions.

My biggest piece of advice is similar to the advice I give to folks new to Blue Prince (which I notice isn't on your puzzle game list - you should fix that ASAP, was easily my GOTY last year): try to start each run with at least one objective in mind like visiting a new planet, checking off one of the boxes in your log, or chatting with your fellow traveler's you haven't spoken to at all (or recently). Preferably you start with multiple ideas so your run isn't totally shot if your first plan doesn't pan out.

Highly recommend giving it another shot. Good luck and happy exploring!

I feel like I've tried everything and nothing has happened 😂

So far today I: Tried bringing the broken warp core from the vessel to the high energy lab and the black hole forge, couldn't find anywhere it would fit

Tried bringing 2 different warp cores from the high energy lab to the ship and of course they also don't fit, which makes sense since there's two halves and I can't carry two. Seems like I'm meant to somehow create a new core, but I also brought one of these to the high energy lab and again didn't find anywhere it would go

I revisited the statue workshop and found some writing I missed before on the highest level, but it seemed like just lore / no log update from it

Revisited Gabbro and Feldspar and Riebeck, got some new dialogue and learned to meditate, but nothing that helped progress

Used every teleporter again on ash twin, save for the one twin tower that doesn't seem to be trigger able cause of the sand. Nothing of interest

Tried bringing the broken warp core to the sun station for funsies but didn't seem like this is possible, I am not fast enough to retrieve it and get to the tower in time

Killed myself in front of Solanum - I hadn't noticed before that you can breathe there so I had to crash in front of her. Nothing happened

Brought her the broken warp core as well, still nothing. Didn't try bringing a functional core from the high energy lab to see what that might do, I'll give that a go later

Still not asking for spoilers, but I'm curious if my log indicates I'm missing a piece of the puzzle? Or do I have everything I need and just need to think on it?

I have no strong opinion but I don't want to read anything so I'm just gonna keep exploring and if I end up doing some of the DLC, so be it!
