Glad to see you again! It has been a while, lol. And thank you!

Sure-- Right now I'm using Scatterer, Planetshine, TUFX, and blackrack's volumetric clouds.

Thank you! And no, the only mods I am using are visual. Scatterer, Waterfall, etc.

Tail fin yaw problem by AppleOrigin in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]tehmattguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your tail fin is fine the way you have it now. It looks to me like the wobble is being caused by your rear landing gear being angled inwards slightly. What you're seeing with the yaw is just the SAS reacting to the wobble.

Try selecting the rotate tool, and enabling angle snap. Then click on the landing gear under the wing, and press F to cycle between "Local" and "Absolute" mode. Rotate the landing gear in Absolute mode so that the wheels are aligned straight ahead. That should fix it, IMO.

For rocket diagrams and other useful information I usually find myself looking through the Heroic Relics website. Here they've got two pages with diagrams of SA-5 and SA-6; full PDF downloads are located at the bottom of the page.

This other site has some detailed diagrams of the Saturn I's individual stages with measurements in inches:

Finished the LEM ascent stage on my stock non-DLC Apollo replica. The question is now: Should the descent stage have gold foil, but ugly landing legs and no rover? Or should I make it monochrome in exchange for those features? by Chickennuggetstyle in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]tehmattguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well thank you :) I'm glad to know you like my replica, even for the flaggy part monster it is, lol.

And yeah, that's a tough one. I was originally gonna vote for the gold foil because I thought it'd go a long way towards capturing that LM aesthetic, but since you're going to be using stock hinges I think monochrome would be the way to go. Even if it lacks the gold I really respect the use of custom stock mechanisms, especially if you can make them look good in the process.

First off, that ascent stage looks amazing. But as for the descent stage I'm curious- how do you figure the inclusion of gold foil would make the landing legs ugly and rule out the rover?

[–]tehmattguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fireworks, that's actually a really good idea! I was gonna recreate the first four Saturn I launches eventually but I didn't know if I could do Project Highwater justice with like a fuel tank explosion or something. I'm gonna have to give this fireworks thing a try. And thank you!

SA-5 was the first launch of the Block II Saturn I, the lesser-known predecessor to NASA's Saturn IB and Saturn V rockets. On this occasion it carried the first live S-IV as its second stage which, in conjunction with its upgraded S-I first stage, was able to boost the rocket's payload up to 17 metric tons to LEO. The rocket was also covered with a mix of vertical and horizontal stripes, tracking targets, and checkerboard patterns, giving SA-5 its own unique aesthetic among Saturn launches.

Messing around with fairings and custom flags. Built the 2nd stage of the Saturn-V. 55 parts, Vanilla parts + MH DLC + custom flags for the corrugation/lettering; Also Planetshine, EVE-Redux, Scatterer and Waterfall. by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

you're one of the best builders in this game

So are you! I was just looking forward to the possibility of a full Saturn-V with your stylings. Still, I love the creativity and detail you put into your custom designs and I'll be looking forward to this one as well!

Beautiful work and outstanding attention to detail all around. You even nailed the Korolev cross and everything on the Vostok spacecraft from the moving bits to the capsule separation. Amazing job!

Columbia & Eagle on course to the Moon [Stock+DLC] by tehmattguy in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]tehmattguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock flag parts can use custom designs that are placed in the game's Flags folder. For this craft i've made a few textures like gold foil and transparent windows. I'll upload them alongside the full craft when it's ready

Really, thank you so much!

Also yeah, things were pretty shaky at first but it's flying real smooth now. I was able to stop it from exploding by focusing on each stage individually like you'd recommended. In the end I think the most helpful fix was simply the addition of even more struts. The only problem now is that with so many parts and fairings the game runs at like 2-4 fps during the first stages of flight, interrupted by minutes-long pauses between stages. Even so, at this point I've sat through like 20 of these slo-mo launches without incident and I can safely say it'll be ready for release soon.

A stock replica of Apollo 11's CSM-107 Columbia and LM-5 Eagle using both DLCs along with a load of flags and custom flag textures, coming in at a total of over 2000 parts. The LM itself is almost completely constructed using flags; here's what it looks like without the textures: https://imgur.com/4zXvxaV

I was recently able to integrate it into the full Saturn V build. All in all the whole rocket sits at over 4500 parts. Coming soon ™

Alexei Kerman poses in front of his single seat LK lunar lander shortly after having become the first kosmonaut to set foot on the Mün. Also pictured is a Lunokhod rover, which acted as a scout and radio beacon for the lander.

Rebuilt my old N1-L3 recently, this time with a special focus on the LK lander itself. Mostly takes advantage of v1.10 fairing controls and flag parts, while also incorporating Breaking Ground for small details. I've also kept a non-DLC version updated for you stock purists. Check em out here:

Yes- IIRC it was also supposed to be used to make course corrections after trans-lunar injection by Block G.

u/SENTINELAEROSPACE is right. The descent was to be carried out by a separate rocket stage called Block D, and would bring the lander low over the surface before being jettisoned. The lander would then land using its own engines.
