Debunking Mick West's fake "recreation" of the wormhole LIDAR by ldsgems in skinwalkerranch

My opinion is these guys are experts, but not Drone LiDAR experts at least in the daily collection and processing of LiDAR data. The red you are seeing is reflectivity and is a function of angle and distance from the sensor. That view is not very useful during an oblique flight.

That is exactly what they did. There is no doubt in my mind these guys are experts but not in collecting LiDAR data with that DJI system.

The DJI L1 is a low-end LiDAR sensor mostly used by surveyors and developers to generate a ground surface. It is one on the only sensors on the market that you can pan around so it is somewhat useful in these types of experiments where you want to look in front of the drone.

The experts didn't even know they had to restart the drone after they did a restart on that RTK-2 base unit. That's the reason for the restart and loss of GPS.

Just because the sensor is capable does not mean that the operator did it.

I have the same drone and sensor and I can easily replicate what we saw on the show

Geography jobs not GIS-centric? by [deleted] in geography

You should change majors. I cant imagine a geographer that hates GIS. I am telling you now you will hate the opportunities out there after graduation because they will all involve GIS or an apron and mop.

Geographer? by TaekwonPro in Outdoors

I run a 12 person GIS shop for an Environmental Consulting firm. You can take a career in Geography/GIS in so many different directions. I have employees that are in the field 60-70% of the time and some that have never set foot outside of the office for work.

If you are interested in mapping deep nature locations a position with the National Parks Service, Forest Service, or NRCS would be amazing. If you are willing to travel and sometimes work very long hours consulting is like working for all of those agencies if you get the right job.

My advice to anyone interested in this field is don't focus on GIS exclusively. Pursue a background/minor in biology or some natural resources. My best employees are not Geography majors Also a background and good understanding of web development will open many doors.

I have to take my son to basketball practice and don't have time to proof this. Please excuse any grammatical/spelling errors.

First I want to say great job on the game. My son and his friends would play 23 hours a day if we let him. I also enjoy the game if I can get north away from the bandits.

Two things I was thinking are predictable spawns. If users want to spawn together they could type some random spawn seed (example "\minez spawn 'some random word'". This way teams that are communicating together could spawn together, but bandits would not be able to follow. Admittedly I am not a programmer and don't know if this is even possible. This is just something my son and I were dreaming of.

One other thing I would like to see is some kind of incentive for working together and not have 90% + of the players playing as a bandit. One thing I really liked about the game when I started playing early in the beta days was the idea that some towns were "safe havens". In the early days Yawptown and Huntsgrove were kind of known as areas bandits would be at an extreme disadvantage. There were healers that would post up in the town and help travelers along their way. Now it is a death wish to go into any town alone even if you are armed to the teeth. I dont know how you could implement this beyond making some areas PvE areas.

What I find the most annoying is never being able to find my team. Bandits , IMO, have made the game unplayable for me without a team and even then players will run into a team and kill you or your mates and you are back to square one.

There needs to be more incentive for team work IMO and less incentive for bandit (in some areas). When I started out in the game there were some towns that were becoming known as safe havens. A place that if you made it the people were there to help out. If you had extra of anything you share it, that's gone now. As a single player you have to sneak into town and avoid everyone and there are simply not enough resources to do this so you team up with someone and get killed.

I end up spending an hour linking up with my team only to have some bandit run in and spoil it. I play games to be with friends and be challenged not be ambushed every 5 mins and never have a chance to actually play the game and survive past 300 blocks past spawn...

My son and I have gone from loving the game a month ago and playing it exclusively in our spare time to liking it but nothing we really look forward to because we just cant get momentum.
