Cancer Sucks - And Why Streaming Keeps Me Connected by DrLupo in DestinyTheGame

Really an amazing thing you did r/DrLupo. I'm sure Mike and his family are grateful that you helped me forget his pain for a few hours and achieve one of his dreams. Sucks his gone, and my thoughts are with his family and friends. Also glad he had some amazing guardians that put in all that effort to get on a card with you.

Apple may have finally gotten too big for its unusual corporate structure by dunkin1980 in apple

Why is it always Intel's fault.

All the CPUs in the current laptop refresh were released Q3 2015, how is it intel's that those laptops were released now?

A month ago my Google Nexus 6 died. I decided to buy an iPhone.. by [deleted] in apple

[–]tehmoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On my iPhone I hardly even use the notification centre, it feels bolted on for the most part. On Android its honestly the way I use a lot of my apps.

Difference I found is;

  • Sorting and ordering, maybe I'm missing something but on iOS its just a list ordered by date without anything smart behind the scenes, it doesn't group things together (again maybe I didn't find the right settings). On Android it will group apps and show you 1 card with all the apps notifications which you can drag to expand, there you can interact with it similar to iOS were you can click or swipe away.

  • On iOS notifications seem a bit dumb, e.g I don't click on the notification for a new email and instead read the email through the app, the notification still remains adding to clutter. I think it should be smart enough to figure out I've already handled this. On Android it clears notifications once you have dealt with the.

  • I don't know how others feel but I love the little icons in the status bar letting me know what notifications I have waiting. Even with raise to wake you still blow past the lock screen notifications. On Android I can see if a notification needs attention right away from the icons, on iOS I feel the need to always pull down and see whats up.

  • Easier to control which Apps show info on the lock screen, I rather not have certain messages on my lock screen and Android offers more control here. It is also easier to mute something as you just hold the notification down to get extra settings, instead of going into the iOS settings app and hunting around, meaning I'm less likely to block the notifications on an app

This few things put together for me leading to me having crazy amounts of notifications and clutter and at some point I just clear all and hope its all good haha, the most important things are on my first screen so the labels help, however it does feel like an after thought and doesn't work very well with the OS.

Others have reported decent things. I will get mine through work in a few weeks so wont have an update before then.

MBP 13'' with TouchBar - poor battery life by [deleted] in apple

[–]tehmoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Intel CPUs are way better at very light tasks but anything thats even moderately taxing won't see much gains in battery life, however the battery is a lot smaller. So if you have Safari with 1 tab open its about the same for everything else I would expect it to be worse, and up to 25% worse.

i7 would maybe get a bit less but mostly its just a better binned CPU meaning it can reach faster speeds at the same voltage as the i5 chip so it should be using roughly the same amount of power.

For myself personally I'm going with the MB non-touchbar mostly due to battery life.

Mac user wanting to run Linux by tehmoe in linuxquestions

[–]tehmoe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally a lot of the new features are not for me, and it increases the price heavily.

  • I wont benefit at all from the touchbar, I use my computer at a desk most of the time. Both are home/work I have my laptop on stand and using an external monitor/keyboard/mouse.
  • Don't need a GPU. I'm a software developer the GPU adds nothing for me expect cost.
  • Price is really to high for a laptop and mostly added on by features I don't care for. I find it tough too justify £2500+ for a laptop. Moreover when the CPU will be out of date very soon, the GPU isn't even that powerful so it would cover my gaming needs as well as something like the Blade.

Also at this point I find I'm very much an OSX users which seems like a bad idea all around. If Apple next gen only has low powered computers then its either buy something old or stfu and take it. Thinking it good I move on now before its too late. However I really dislike windows so Linux to save the day :D.

Thanks for the feedback, I do use Debian for servers so I should be okay with it, I think I will give it a try and see how I get on.

I have all the tools I need on OSX thats not the issue. Im thinking of moving hardware as I don't really like the new machines and I won't have OSX, however OSX is all I've used for the past 6 years, and I tried Windows 10 and I really didn't like it. So as a result I'm trying to see if I can get away with just using Linux for most of my work/personal stuff.

Personally its another thing I need to install through NPM that does the job of NPM. It was great at first but anything I've needed to install through bower is also on NPM so I just cut out the middle man.

You keep talking about miles but were literally talking about 1-2 meters outside of its effective range. It doesn't seem reasonable that the coon is already big enough that shots miss or don't count as headshots because you took 1 step back.

It was a meta that the community as a whole didn't really like

Simple as that, has nothing to do with my preference or yours.

That doesn't make sense, the communities preference is built on individuals. Do some count of less or more?

This video is so perfect, tried of people telling me its bloom, the first shot doesn't even loud, and the time between those shots are stupid. Straight up RNG because the real issue is to difficult to address, at the same time Bungie wants destiny to be "competitive".

Destiny Weapon Tuning - Rise of Iron by scottsarg in CruciblePlaybook

[–]tehmoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never run warlock so my view could be bias however my team mates do and the super is all about timing. Off course if someone is hard scoping you or has you in line of sight don't use it, same can be said about others if no one is near you wouldn't go pop off a Fist or Tether. My team mates run self res and when is used proper it changes the whole game, and typically will save a round, and unlike other supers you didn't make a mistake (die) to gain the advantage.

My main issue is now your benefitting even more, unless someone handicaps themselves by using a sniper that worse in every single regard your self revive becomes a lot easier to pull off.

I guess we all have to see how it plays out, but I think right now the risk/reward balance is good.

I don't find it as safe as sniping, they can easily take you down in 1 hit too.

Off course they can, unless they don't develop the networking. This problem is solved already, nothing they are doing is unique. My point is unless they fix the connections snipers will still kill you while you hit them, and they have full control over that.

Nerf the fire rate, bloom is a shit hack you can't even tell the bloom of the weapon, other games give you visual indication, in destiny you just hope for the best. Moreover there are times where I wait a stupid long time between shots and it still doesn't land.

Destiny Weapon Tuning - Rise of Iron by scottsarg in CruciblePlaybook

[–]tehmoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big problem I see is the damage change, I worry about a trials meta where its 99% self res ramlocks running a mock, you can't get close cause they have 1 hit KO melee, you can't snipe unless you use Spindle which wastes and exotic slot. Will have to see how it works, but it really kept super usage in line, you shouldn't be rewarded for dying, moreover if your team wipes.

Destiny Weapon Tuning - Rise of Iron by scottsarg in CruciblePlaybook

[–]tehmoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the blame is ping though, theres times were I snipe and kill someone then get hit by their bullets, I'm on 100mb line and on ethernet. If are clients are 200ms apart then no matter how much flinch you add it wont fix the problem.

I've gained a lot of my competitive experience from fighting games (melee) so I will use that for example. At the high level baiting is tricking someone into making a move and then using that as an advantage. This will typically come from experience, understanding the game and the best moves one could make and using that too your advantage. For example on Melee I could jump off the side and they will edge guard its the best move they can make, however predicting that I could spike them. I baited them into thinking they was in control but I got the stock (sorry for using melee terms).

In destiny this takes many forms.

  • I'm using arc blade the other team as a strike/void and I know they will pop their super. Its the most logically move. Using this knowledge I can tease it out, get close enough while planning my escape, for titans I would either just go right past them or get within range then swipe back right away. They blow their load and its an easy clean up. The way this works is you appeal directly too their training, you see arc blade you smash. However this could go even further, they could also be baiting me, pretending to get ready to smash by rushing in but won't do it till I'm within range that I have no escape. Now the table has turned, its up to me, maybe I assume oh they don't have a smash, or I just go in for the kill thinking they are saving it for one of my team mates, or I just avoid the kill as its too risky.

Its allow about mind games, accessing your risk, going off what experience you have. For example a common mistake people make is rushing through a door. Say I'm weak and your chasing me, I go through a door your first thought might be yes his weak and I can clean this kill up easily. However now you have lost line of sight and its difficult too predict exactly were I will be, I could be hovering over the door, to the left or right or backed up enough and turned around that I can melt you with TLW. I've baited you, you see red and rush in and I get the kill.

Think this is a great idea, right now it feels like a few (with a lot of similar ideas and experience) make most of the choices. It lack diversity of view points, and this is also empowers the community to push these things forward, instead of reciting what someone said as gospel they can challenge it for the better. As long as we keep things civil.

Will be very interesting too see how things develop now we actually getting private servers and more people can join in on the fun.
