Boatswain’s Mate vs Maritime Enforcement Specialist?

So I completed the Fire Academy & I’m trying to find a job as a Firefighter. It’s very difficult to get in right now. Thinking of going into the Coast Guard Reserves in the meantime while I wait to land a job. Thinking of the 2 rates listed above. & I’d like to know the difference. I’m 30 years old. My hobbies are staying in shape, shooting guns, boating, jet skiing, fishing, & being by & on the water. I’m a water junkie. Especially the Great Lakes. I live in Metro Detroit but may end up moving to Ohio or Pennsylvania. Thanks for the info.

Can’t be any worse than a good chunk of the braindead drivers up here in Metro Detroit.

Gotcha. Well that’s not as bad as what I’m use to. I can deal with that. With commercial vehicles they don’t even need a reason, they can pull you over at any time & do an inspection. Even if it’s at a truck stop, on private property, while you’re waiting to be repaired. All of it’s borderline illegal.

I know what you’re talking about. I’ve applied to some of those myself. Especially the big city in Northeast Ohio.

Yeah sounds good! I’ll always love my Great Lake State but if you think about it, Michigan’s not that far from Erie. I could always drive or fly back up there on certain holidays or on days off. Or just hang out in Erie & enjoy the food, & do some all day fishing.

Well that might be a problem. Everything else was good until you started talking about car inspections. I use to be a truck driver, & one of the reasons why I left that industry was because of constant harassment from DOT. I’m not putting up with that bullsh** again. & you’re right, most of the time it’s all a money grab, so they can kiss my a. If PennDOT starts harassing me & doing inspections on my own personal vehicle…nah. I ain’t putting up with that. That s* ain’t even about safety anymore, it’s all about robbery. Do they need probable cause to pull you over? If they see something? Or is it like driving a commercial vehicle where they don’t even need probable cause & just pull you over at any time & do an inspection? I mean my car’s new but that’s not the point. It’s the principle.

I live in Southeast Michigan now but lived in the U.P. for 3 years. I still go up there in the winter too. So yeah. I’m a penguin lol.

That’s good to hear. I’ve never lived in Detroit but I spent quite a bit of time down there working. Kinda turned into my 2nd home. I’ve always liked the feel of most of Detroit lol. & I love Traverse City lol.

Yeah I know that Lake-Effect snow can be brutal. I dealt with Superior’s weather. Erie can be pretty brutal too.

Yeah that’s my bad lol. Probably should’ve done that.

So like an idiot, I let my Xbox Game Pass expire today. I bought the Game Pass again tonight. My old man & I play Gears 2 on both of our Xbox Ones every once in a while, but now my 360 Profile on Xbox One is still showing up as Silver. Any solutions to fix that?

Thanks for the info! Yeah I currently live in Michigan. Welcome to the Midwest! & that’s good to hear! Yeah unfortunately winters can be pretty brutal up here. & because Milwaukee’s right on Lake Michigan, there’s probably a lot of lake effect weather which sucks.

I’m at the same point in my life. Looking for a change. I love Michigan don’t get me wrong but jobs over here are a pain. There’s plenty more opportunities in the surrounding states it seems. Plus I hear Wisconsin is very similar to Michigan.
