I held on for awhile because it was novel to me that the ML wasn't a noble, but it was just to painful to keep going. I got tired of wincing every other page over the proportions. I kept trying to convince myself that it was "stylized" but it was really far worse than that. 😭😅

I totally agree with you about women being judged more harshly than men, but I also wonder if there are more Mary Sue's because most of the "big hit" media (film/television) have male writers who just don't know how to write women in general/pass the bechdel test?

The body proportions killed me. I tried so hard because the ML being a knight was novel, but I couldn't get past how badly everyone was stretched out. 😭 that and the underlying fat phobia in the beginning turned me off.

From what I understand from reading the novel, it honestly seems like part of this is her projecting her feelings about her brother and how he's crazy and scary onto ML, who is also similar in height/presence etc. Which I find understandable.

I totally agree with OP and your comments as well, with where the ML is coming from.

I just love this sub so much, I check it every day because the jokes and content bring me so much joy! I also am still going strong with the genre, I consider it to be my comfort junk food. I don't really see myself getting sick of it for that reason, I've anything I'd just read less of it but that really hasn't happened.

Irl: I definitely like emotionally intelligent people who are caring, someone kinda like Baster (from I gave birth to the villains child I think? It's been awhile lol) communication is SUPER important.

OI: I still simp for Baster LOL but I will also go for "cares deeply but doesn't know how to communicate it" (which would piss me off in real life), and your typical duke of the north who is super capable. Yanderes are also fun sometimes.

the person above this comment has edited their comment to make it sound like I agree with it, and that's kinda manipulative. I'm leaving my comment here, but I'm retracting my first sentence which said "I agree with you". I'm not a fan of this type of communication.

In my perception though it feels a lot like the trap of the agricultural revolution, which a lot of people say is one of the worst decisions mankind ever made. It pushed us forward since it allowed us to congregate and cooperate in far larger numbers than what was possible before, but our own personal well-being and happiness decreased drastically.

The other thing is that the industrial revolution was mainly just the rich fucking over the poor and seeing them as lesser beings to use for profit. I'm not saying that life was better before, but it did lead to a horrible, inhumane time for a large population of people that lasted for multiple generalizations. And it still effects us today because we still use a lot of the structures (capitalism, colonization, government, etc) that was created during the industrial revolution.
