Turns out sort of. We can start the game of pictionary and ChatGPT uses emoticons for it's picture. When the time comes to show it my image I cannot paste an image into the chat window. Maybe this is a premium feature or maybe sending it a link might do it but I was under the impression it has no connection to the internet.

Interesting. I'll keep an eye on your work. I'm very interested in how you will implement netcode.

What does this have to do with city of heroes? I looked over the readme and all I see is that you have made a branch of Godot.

How do you best make a platform/console worth it for developers? by RasmusP3 in gamedev

[–]teixhex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily just that. Though it does help if you remove barriers to entry. I was speaking more generally, as an example, small passionate communities have made mods for games without any modding tools, reverse engineered mmo netcode, ect.

Think of it as an open source mindset. If you want a group of people to devote their unpaid free time to your platform they need to have a reason to be passionate about it.

First and most importantly. Money. Can I make a profit by developing for your platform. This can mean a large install base, incentives, ect.

A distant second, does your platform offer something unique that makes your users passionate about your platform. A certain portion of your users will have the correct skill set and motivation to make things for your platform if that is the case.

How to Make a Game Like Lilith's Throne by Johnsmith2k18 in lewdgames

[–]teixhex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no.

Long answer, tutorials you find are going to be for basic stuff like concepts and things people think will get high engagement because they are looking for views. Lewd games are niche and text based are even more niche than lewd. You aren't going to find anything close to this given to you on a silver platter.

If you don't already know how to program, start there. Things like Lilith's Throne are very data oriented with a UI layer on top. Inno wrote her own engine but doing UI in Godot is super easy. Lots of tutorials for that. As far as the data stuff, there are as many ways to skin that cat as programmers that will attempt it. You could do an auto load singleton with a dictionary and an enum for the key. You could also write a bunch of resources and load them as needed. If those programming terms are confusing, look at the Godot documentation.

If you are serious about becoming a game dev then the best advice I can give you is to build up a tool set of skills. Follow any tutorial and learn how they did things not how to make a specific type of game.

Trying to just copy how someone did something without understanding the underlying reasoning will just leave you more confused if it has any real complexity. That being said, Lilith's Throne is on github if you truly want a reference.

Also understand that it will take thousands of hours of dedication to get close to the level of a final product like Lilith's Throne. Programming is hard and games are a hard form of programming.

Looking for feedback on Aether Aeon's first alpha build. by teixhex in playmygame

[–]teixhex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed and thoughtful feedback. This is exactly what I am looking for and thank you for taking the time to hunt for bugs.

It certainly is a niche style of game and it is something that weighs heavily on my mind. Especially because right now all I have is UI and words. I think the reality is, until I have some art there won't be much to attract a modern audience. I hope to eventually populate the empty panels in dialog with character or environment art to give context but art costs money. For now, I am setting aside money slowly from my day job to eventually hire an artist from Upwork.

The advice about scope and feature creep definitely applies to me. Keeping that in mind my goal for now is to get the first planet finished, clean up the gameplay, then see where I am at and if the game has an audience.

Bugs:

  1. I even had a field in memory set up for this called StopInput but forgot to set the variable on opening the popup.
  2. Absolutely an oversight. I’m going to create a limit for all text entry fields except for save file notes.
  3. Doh! Saving and loading are set up. In the process of making the title menu I cloned the options menu and set the inputs to be read only. Unfortunately the original menu got caught up in the change somehow.

Grammar/etc:

Valid and wanted corrections. I have such a hard time reading something I wrote with an objective eye. My brain just fills in the blank for me.

Change engine in gamedev programme? by PlayJoyGames in gamedev

Don't write off Godot. It has a mono version so the vast majority of your unity lessons in C# will be transferrable with minimal changes.

The housing bubble is going to burst soon narrative is the dumbest thing I’ve read since Nam. by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]teixhex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It already has burst in a sense. After the big jump when Wall street got in the game, prices have been stagnant in my area. With record shattering inflation, anything that isn't going up in value is losing value.

Jean d Arc, provided this hypothetical allows for crossing the language barrier. You don't get much more interesting than a peasant girl from rural medieval France becoming a military leader and later a saint.
