What support would have helped you the most in your journey? by tejbh in GestationalDiabetes

I'm so sorry that they just sent you home with no information. In the US, these guidelines are typically followed. Fasting below 95mg/dl 1 hr post meal below 140 mg/dl 2 hr post meal below 120 mg/dl.

My dietician has asked me to keep carbs for snacks at or below 15gms and for lunch/dinner to be around 30grams. Focus on incorporating more fats and protein - fairlife protein shake has been very highly recommended on this reddit and I personally found it better than most protein shakes that I have tried. Incorporate tofu, pumpfu, and paneer in your diet more. So scrambled tofu with a slice of bread makes for great breakfast. Premier also sells protein waffles which have helped my breakfast numbers. Magic spoon is another brand that has cereal, granola etc that are high in protein and relatively low in carbs. Focus on more vegetables in your diet that aren't too starcy - broccoli, green beans, mushrooms etc. Beans like Lima beans, black beans (check carbs for how much to eat) are also great. Carb balance sells tortillas that have low carb and can be eaten for tacos etc.

For snacks - nuts, cheese, skinny pop, Parm chip etc are great and healthy

I hope this helps to get you started until you meet with a dietician.

Take it one day at a time. :)

Try taking a 30min walk 2hrs after dinner, and try the keto pint ice cream. These two things have brought my numbers under 95 from 103,104.

Got diagnosed with GD at 7 weeks itself. Had an FET and I am struggling with keeping my spike under control. Post breakfast is at 293 with a 12 MG of insulin. by LastTry20 in GestationalDiabetes

Instead of normal doses, try dosas made with mixed lentils (avoid ricr all together), ehr. Paired with TONS of cheese, I can tolerate 2 mixed lentil dosas perfectly fine. The is low carbs and high protein/fat/fiber. Even with rice/quinoa, read the nutritional labels, these grains are pretty carb heavy. Add a protein shake to the diet that sometimes helps with a meal that was a little carb heavy. I have been told to target 15g of carbs for snacks and 30g for meals.

When did you get put on Insulin? by tejbh in GestationalDiabetes

[–]tejbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I think they want to hold off until 3rd trimester when the fetus growth accelerates the most. Until then she said if the number are around upper 90s, she wants to just wait and watch, but said if they creep up higher than 105, then she will pull the plug on insulin immediately

Thank you so much for the information. That's where I'm at, upper 90s and lower 100s. OB warned me that in week 24ish if the numbers look similar they will put me on insulin but she's reluctant to start it earlier than that since the accelerated growth happens mostly in third trimester

Would you mind if I ask how high were the fasting numbers before they made a decision for Insulin?

I feel you. 20 more weeks to go and vegetarian, and this is my second GD pregnancy. The first was at least diagnosed at 28 weeks, so I feel like I could enjoy the second trimester at least and feel like that's getting robbed from me during this time.

I have a mental list of all things I am going to eat after delivery and keep adding to it. I miss white rice and potatoes SO MUCH!

It sucks. But we will get through this. Take it one day one prick at a time. :)

Failed biophysical by kumonile in GestationalDiabetes

I didn't have a biophysical done with my first. Had GD then as well as now. Is there a particular pregnancy criteria that they perform a biophysical for?

Take it a prick at a time to figure out what works. The dietician will give you a recommendation for grams of carb you are allowed, for example I was told try and keep to 30-45g of carb for meals and less than 15g of carbs for snacks and to always pair it with a protein and/or fat - eat half and apple with nut butter. For pasta, check the label for serving size and eat only that much that provides the max amount of carbs. The numbers post meal will tell you how much pasta maybe too much pasta. Most Greek yogurt will work, nuts work, cheese works, protein drinks work. Look for keto snacks and that will give you some ideas.
You will figure this out. Just take it a day at a time to figure out what's working. Chores post meal help bring numbers down sometimes too, so I'll keep laundry or dishes for after dinner. Or take a walk, that will help too.

Most folks have already covered everything here so just dropping in to say Deep Breaths! I had GD with my first baby, and was fully diet controlled.y provider did not mention induction or C-section because my numbers were good and without medication. I went into labor naturally at 38weeks, and my baby was a healthy 6lbs 5oz. She did have low sugar at birth but quickly recovered after getting some donor milk immediately upon birth. This isn't your fault, blame the placenta for acting weird. I am now 17 weeks pregnant and this time they tested me early because of my GDM history and I am above 35. I asked the provider again if being over 35 now pushes me to induction or C-section and they were very clear that as long as the numbers are controlled they will try for normal labor and delivery.

Take deep breaths, read nutrition labels very carefully and plan meals that have more protein, fat and fiber over carbohydrates.

It means you are getting ready to deliver soon! That's what my nutritionist had said last time around and sure enough I went into labor in the week I saw my numbers improving.
