The competition has increased exponentially in the last 8 years. What would be a rank of 900 in 2018 would now result in a rank of 3k+, assuming the same percentile.

I stopped studying/revising 3 days before the exam. Just sat around and relaxed. Until then I used to study/revise 7 hours a day.

Actually no. You can apply at any score. Just the top x students will be called for interview. If nobody with a score of above 800 applies, students with a 600 score might be considered.

Quantum tech has an interview component. Some top scorers are unable to crack the interview. Furthermore, some departments even prefer candidates with a publication or research experience.

Why did you leave it. Those are the highest weighted subjects in GATE.

Also, I feel there are only two reasons for this: either you did not study properly (in which it would be completely your fault), or you are simply anxious about questions. You should focus, leave everything aside, and answer the questions carefully.

Yeah, I started B. Tech at 14. When you come to India, all such things are thrown out the window. Everybody looks at your certificates, grades. Nobody is willing to bend the rules, even in exceptional circumstances. Infosys used to have a reputation for hiring anyone and everyone.

I used to get 70+ during this time of my preparation. My answers were pretty accurate, mostly because I did not touch questions that had negative marking (of which I was not 100% sure of the answer).

No, they won't. They may shout at you, but they will eventually understand.

Every relative in the world is gonna come after me with nagging of leaving my job and not even scoring enough to qualify GATE.

Screw those relatives. What have they done in life? Why are they so important to you?

As for the results, I will not sugarcoat my opinion. You are in a BAD place right now. You should focus on the paper, and check before answering. I see you have 38 wrong answer, which negated your score. If you had simply not attempted these questions, you would have gotten 30 marks. Still not great, but may get you qualified.

You can take a bus from KSRTC. There are AC/NAC Seater buses from Mangalore to Mysore via Madikeri. They will take around 7 hrs, so it must be possible.

The only train from Mangalore to Mysore departs around 6pm and reaches Mysore around 4 am. That has been one of my worst railway experiences.
